Help to Identify

Would anyone have any idea about this Trek, year etc? I came across it at a customers home stored up in the rafters, the owner took it down and sent me these photos, but then the virus hit before I could go back to see it. I will not be able to see it again until this is over. I know prices are very subjective, but any ballpark ideas. Thank you

1964GTO Have him email you the SN (BB) and then look it up on Vintage Trek site. Nice looking bike!
Pictures don't have enough resolution to discern the seat cluster or the fork crown. Not to mention the lack of a drive side picture! Ask him to send you pics of the SN, side view of the crown, seat cluster, and drive side both with the whole bike and just the drive train.

I worked with a guy who owned a 1964 GTO convertible. Probably still has it.

Thanks for the reply Mr.66, I'm hoping to check it out in the next few weeks.

Thank you SJX426, I think I will email him this week. He wasn't sure he wanted to sell so I was giving him some time to think. He's stored it in the rafters for 20 years as his back up ride. I t looked great hanging up there, need to save it.

Thanks curbtender, I'll try to load some higher Rez photo if that would help. But as suggested, I just need to email for more information and serial number etc.

Indeed, colorway and components and graphics match an '86 Tri Series 700. Nicely equipped bike, mostly Shimano 600. Anodized Matrix rims were Trek's order of the day, but those brake tracks are VERY worn. Brake hoods are missing, and old electrical tape on the handlebar is always fun to clean up.

Hmm, the catalog specs a Tange fork (shrug).

Acetone is your best bet to remove electrical tape goo.

Thanks madpogue, this is very helpful, I need to contact the owner to see if he really wants to sell it.

I'll email the owner to see if he has a fair price and wants to sell it. Anyone have any ideas on a price as it sits? Thanks again for the help.

As it sits, $100-150. A days cleaning/lube, hoods, bar tape, cables and housing, tires and rim strips, chain, cassette, then maybe 350-400. Paint looks in good condition.

I was able to pick the bike up this past week, it is a 1986 700. Going to need to be cleaned up and change a few things before the first ride. Just for the sake of saying I did, I added air to the back tire for the first time in over 20 years, and it's holding, and no I will not put my weight on it. lol

Thank you cb400bill for moving this to the appropriate location.

It would be nice to know a value for this bike before I change allot of parts. Vintage Trek shows it is a 700, 22, serial number between 250915 and 250949, 1986. Any help would be appreciated.
