Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Seems like weed cloth is only good for 5 years here, after that you gotta break out the poison or the fire a couple times a year.

Most of the hills in my area are in the river valleys. Because of how they were shaped, they tend not terribly high, though some can be steep. I couldn't guesstimate grades - I'd have to look.

Either way, they can easily be ignored.

I have long femurs, so I'm always stuck with a setback post. 20mm minimum with most saddles.

New position felt okay, kind of wanted a bit more stem extension and a touch narrower saddle. Tonight was up there with my quickest rides on that particular bike, so either I was just motivated or coming forward helps me out a bit to make more power. Whether that position is sustainable over longer rides I don't know, but it kind of needs to since that's why I built the thing.

I seem to recall that we all had to go and turn them off when TPTB suddenly decided that was a good idea.

Last good hill I did was Whiteface. 8 miles at 8%. 100% fun, too bad it’s not closer.

A lot of people like to 'ride the rivet' at times. I often do for efforts over threshold. Bah Humbug could prolly explain hip angles and whatnot that's involved.

Yeah, that's prolly a hill that I would avoid. As my w/kg had improved, I've sought hills just for the opportunity for a steady effort, but I am not and never will be a climber.

That's a nope from me. I'd just give up and coast back down long before I reached the top.

Yep, when attempting to get into part of a more-TT position (in the drops), you want it to be mirrored in the hips to maintain the same hip angle, yes. If you keep your same spot on your saddle and move from the hoods to the drops, your hips will close and you'll (probably) lose power. It also puts more weight on the front wheel and through your hands, so you generally don't want it to be your default without... aerobars and arm cups. It's fine for short efforts though.

My ideal would probably be an infinite 1% incline. With a swim before and run after.

No second laps filled with mountain bikes, either.

Yeah, this is also a bit of an investigation into what position I would like to favor and whether or not I like my handlebars.

One benefit to a big ol' handlebar bag is it makes it really easy to control the bike and maintain the "invisible aerobar" position Helped out a lot tonight grinding in to a 15mph headwind.

I had an ~8 mile stretch like that today. I got tired of that ****. In fairness, though, I was well in to my ride and starting to get fatigued.
