Yokohamas are certainly quieter than the previous tires ever were. They also take bumps with more grace - do the Japanese have a word for 'souplesse'?

I was wondering if you had ridden modern mountain bikes before. I had hardtails, then a K2 which broke in half after 10 years, then a cheap KHS aluminum 100mm bike which I rode for 10 more years. I mostly ride road but in 2018 I bought a KHS 6600, a 160/150 enduro style bike with 27.5x2.8 tires. It's the only bike I've ridden from the last decade.
I like it a lot but I had no idea what to get. My friend is a KHS dealer so that helped sway me.

I wish I could ride a bunch of them to see what the differences are but I am pretty happy with the way my KHS works in the rough stuff. It's very stable and forgiving even though it doesn't feature all of the geometry changes some do. It also has what I think is a knockoff DW Link rear end. Maybe they licensed it, I don't know.

A nice bike for sure but around 2017 bikes started getting longer reach, steeper seat tubes, slacker head tubes, reduced offset forks and sometimes shorter chainstays.
I wish I could ride a bunch of them to see what the differences are but I am pretty happy with the way my KHS works in the rough stuff. It's very stable and forgiving even though it doesn't feature all of the geometry changes some do. It also has what I think is a knockoff DW Link rear end. Maybe they licensed it, I don't know.

My old SC Nomad was a few pounds lighter, but it cost almost $6k 10 years ago. This complete bike cost a little more than that frame.

Good luck. The forks on this bike cost more than that.
If you are cautious, and have the "experts" here look it over first, you could probably get a nice hardtail for about $1k.
People over value their 2 year old bike they bought for $1500, and think it's still worth $1200. Don't let them get away with that.
