Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

So in the absence of a functioning trainer I was forced to go actually ride outside. It was actually kinda fun. You guys have been holding out on me!

I’m so lucky to have a place like this so close to my home in the big city. Rode up there early before it got too crowded.

Excellent advice. At our age we have hopefully learned a thing or two about caution.

I have thought about riding a trainer, in my circumstances. Of course, I don't have one.

Funny how one can find little crannies of "wilderness." There's a stretch of road on a route I do, about three or four miles from downtime. For half a mile or so going over the top of a hill all you can see are woods. You'd think you were out on a country road.

Haven’t confirmed, but I heard a police car was set on fire and the statue of late controversial Mayor Rizzo was attacked.

Walked to Whole Foods for some wine. It closed before I got there due to the planned protest close by.

Correct. We were just there year before last. It was a fun stop even though we never ventured much past the local shops. Bubba & Forest’s place was fun.

Oooh, the Safeway is less crowded than usual, I might have to brave the heat for a beer run.
