In a brilliant move that might otherwise be seen as slightly paranoid, Bah Humbug dulled the impact of my double metric century sneak attack with a preemptive imperial century of his own. Well played, sir. Well played.
Woke up at 1am with a sore throat, too, but it seems to have been postnasal drip from allergies because as soon as I cleared it out it felt better, and woke up fine.
But that heat though...
Guess it's a big week all around!

I drove to the mountains @4000 feet and we rode up to the 7000 foot mark and back. It was in the 70s and beautiful. Just 4 of us and I was very glad I went. Wish I could have stayed longer. Also glad to see friends I seldom see anymore.

That was always the plan for this week, but I was staying quiet in case something happened. But, with a week of vacation and nowhere to go, and no other goals at all, I wanted to get in a solo century.

The only liver I'll eat is at Sammy's - chicken liver with fried onions and schmaltz.

Oh, one thing that wasn't perfect on the day - at about mile 25 I saw the glint of a little patch of glass. I swerved and thought that I'd missed it all, but I heard a psst - psst - psst immediately thereafter.
Pulled over to make sure that there wasn't debris still stuck in there and to check the size of the cut. It was clear and a decent size, but not big enough to need a plug. Spin the wheel, let it seal and then gave it a few pumps at my planned pee break a mile later. Probably didn't even need to do that, it felt like it was only slightly lower than the front tire, but since there was another 100+ miles in front of me, I thought it better to take the 30 seconds and make it right.

No problem. They are tasty.
As you probably remember, I’ve done a lot of riding in Montana. Deer are almost as numerous as pigeons in the big city. In 2017 I passed a motorist who had just hit one. Her hood was buckled. No visible external damage to the animal, but the thing was dead as fried chicken. People with expensive truck often have guards on the front, which I assume are to protect the vehicle in case of a deer or elk strike. On the last day of my 2019 tour I left my hotel in town early. There were several grazing by the side of the road by a gas station/convenience store. A couple of them wandered into the road without looking. The locals know to expect stupid behavior from them.

One of my cycling friends got a fancy schmancy new electric Porsche. We rode (bikes) together today, he drove over in his car and parked it in front of my house so it was there for a few hours while we were on our ride.
Mrs datlas said it got a lot of looks by people who happened to be nearby.
I still think the Saturn is better.

When I lived in the mountains there was a security guy who would come out and clean and butcher deer when they were hit by cars. He would split the meat with the driver who hit it. I car pooled with a guy who owned a body shop and he got business from deer strikes. Biker395 on the forum hit a deer with his WRX and I think it was like $5k damage.
