Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My lake mtb shoe soles are starting to separate at the heel. I’ve written Lake to find out what they’d recommend but without any response from them, I’m thinking this weekend I should repair them as I only wear them for commuting.
For something that rigid, I’d use good old 2-part epoxy. Why mess around? For anything which has to bend, I like Loctite Flexible Adhesive (I think that’s what it’s called).

Ham, mashed red taters, brown gravy, green beans, and savory scones here.

Getting geared up to head north and shred some dirt.

Or you could get Shoe Goo.
I think the cobblers usually use a toluene based glue, which i wasn’t sure if would be harmful for the sole. I may have to do a bit more research.

I thought about epoxy as well. My worry on epoxy is not knowing how far the separation is. It might be a bit too viscous.

Fingers crossed the motel room hasn't been rented since Sunday.

Gonna be spraying down all the hard surfaces.

Velo Vol note road condition. This is a bit of an extreme example of our road decay, but it is not very hard to find this kind of stuff around here - I can think of at least three spots on my regular routes that are this bad or worse:

I see that chica climbed nearby Mount Mitchell.

Meanwhile, Velo Vol continues to toil in the Valley, in hopes of one day recapturing his cycling prowess.

Run 28s using Silca's recommended pressures and stick to the right-most 2 feet of the pavement. Easy-peasy.

It's gonna be nice to enjoy some reasonable weather for a couple of days. Mid-80s for highs except Friday. Mid to upper 50s for lows

I saw that too. Mt Mitchell is on my “to do” list but prolly not soon because COVID19 has put a damper on travel/trips.

I would certainly recommend it over methylprednisolone taken by mouth. Applied to the skin they’re both essentially harmless.

As a retired highway engineer, I can say without hesitation that that is a surface failure.

What's sad is that a hundred yards ahead of that there are two ~20 yard sections that they repaired last year. Somehow this section wasn't bad enough to fix

Really thinking about making the switch to 32s, TBH. 38mm on the Trek make most of that crap disappear but I do like the feel of skinnier tires.
