I almost bought a GMC Denali
I almost bought this bicycle off of Craigslist. I had a Denali back in the day and was feeling nostalgic. I am going to forgo my urge to turn it into a project bike because I have a number of projects going on already.

Shouldn't a Denali be a mountain bike, or at least a tandem hybrid? I guess those behemoths aren't so tough after all...

Like I said I wanted to turn into a project, replace the components as I went along, and see if I could shed some weight on it. I had one before, and was planning on that but didn't go through with it, because of a combination of an anal retentive building manager, and lack of space. It was ready to ride, after I got everything adjusted and checked. People often make the mistake of thinking that box store bike is ready to ride out of the door. I already got a road bike project build, underway, plus its kind of a jerk move to waste components.
Here's my old Denali.

Peel off all the Denali decals, and get some new decals from Ebay and you can build yourself a Trek, Specialized, Cannondale, Scott, or whatever.... on a budget!

Don't tempt me lol. I always wanted to see how my old one turned with better (not super duper expensive,) components. Mind you I had no problems with the stock components on it, though I did replace the brake pads immediately after buying, based off of the reviews I read on Amazon. I think I may have shed 10-12 pounds of weight just swapping the handlebars alone.
TBH I like wrenching...It's my Zen, well, when I am not yelling and screaming because I did something stupid or when I have a bolt with a stripped out head, but otherwise I enjoy it.
I know that many people on the forums here, don't like the Denali.

I love a good 'pimp this turd' project. The frame it's self looks somewhat usable, and it's aluminum, so it's probably not crazy heavy. See if you can get it under 20lbs.

Maybe back in 1986... lugged frame, rigid chrome fork, slick skinwall tires? Rim brakes, external cable routing, straight gauge steel tubing? Heh, that's hardly equivalent to a bad department store BSO these days. But it was probably cool at the time, just like popped collared Izod polo shirts and IROC Z-28s. Duran Duran was never, ever cool, though. For the record.

The frame and fork together are about 7 or 8 pounds if I recall correctly. The chainrings and crank arms are surprisingly heavy also. There won't be much of the bike left by the time you get it to twenty pounds.
