The wife decided to extend her Winter trip to Florida. So I found a new bike to overhaul while she is gone. Only a lube and refurb this time around, not a frameset build-up. ‘79 Carlton, 1 owner, very low miles, all original. Bit big for me - but it works. Makes riding in the drops sooooo nice.

I just turned 50 this year, and this Breezer Doppler Cafe+, in addition to updating the utility category in the stable, is kind of an admission that the changes in my cycling brought on by arthritic knees and my not-so-graceful aging may be here to stay. The plush ride of the long wheelbase and plump 650b x 47c tires, the low gearing, and the more upright riding position were intended to take off some of the psychological pressure of heading out on my more racy bikes, so I could get back to enjoying cycling for it’s own sake, rather than feeling competitive all the time. I’ve only had it about 3 weeks, but it seems to work because it is a joy to ride!

I modded the touch points in blue, added some pink bits for pop, and wrapped the fenders in a multi-color prismatic vinyl for the crowning touch. I’m waiting for some Rene Herse Switchback Hill 48c rubber to come in next week, which should further sweeten the ride.

I’ve done two 30+ mile rides on it so far which have been a blast, so hopefully this bike will be the one to lead me back to fitness and keep me pedaling as an integral part of my lifestyle.

2020 Specialized Sirrus 3.0 I just passed 1,000 miles on it since purchase August 1st. It's well suited for my type of riding mostly on Florida bike paths - usually 20 or so miles but at times up to 37 miles or so far. This is where I ride most - the Starkey Wilderness Park bike path. 6.5 miles through the woods then connects to the 45 mile Suncoast trail. So lots of continuous automobile-free riding around here!

I have three bikes all of which are Lynskey Titanium Bikes one road, one mountain and one touring. For the last year or so I primarily ride the more comfortable mountain bike and the touring bike. After a few crashes I have pretty much given up on rough trail riding, so I put smoother tires on the mountian bike and take it to the road. I have two sets of wheels for each to get more variety in tire types and sizes. And I build all of my own wheels.

I have a 1973 Falcon San Remo, a 1982 SR Semi Pro and a 1988 Trek 360. I also have a 1984 Trek 670 but am about to ship it to Wisconsin for a member here.

This year I put a lot of miles on my Raleigh Pro Mk I. It's set up to be comfortable and capable on all kinds of roads ranging from the streets of NYC to gravel roads and dirt paths. And this year it did them all. Spring and summer it took me all over the shut-down city, later on trails north of the city and I got to spend time exploration gravel roads in Vermont this autumn. It's been a pleasure to cruise on this beauty.

Here is a mock-up of a frameset + bits that arrived yesterday. 1985-ish and my first dip into Celeste. Build will be Campa ders+shifters, Weinmann deltas with matching levers. Wheelset tbd.

Weinmann deltas adjust the brake height at the brake bridge not the arms. Just set on rear tire for photo.

My I suggest for your wheelset the H Plus Son TB14, it has an old school profile and comes in both black and polished aluminum. The White Industries T11 hubs are available in polished as well as all colors. The Vittoria Corsa Control tires come in black as well as the more classic sidewall color.

I've not been adding to the small group for the last couple of years until a year ago when I acquired a frame set from a fellow BF'r. Built it up this last spring and did some riding on it. Not a good year of riding for me. This is my favorite at the moment. I guess I could call this my Birthday present for my 70th.

Took delivery of a ‘new’ 1980 bike.
i seldom acquire a rideable bike.

US builder, a custom for original owner and will do very well for me. Maybe a slightly longer stem. Half step and a granny compliments Stronglight and the Galli gold is an ‘I’ catcher, had to have it.

This is a vintage build, for a vintage guy.
Wish my spares inventory contained the components to rebuilt with NOS original equipment. Era appropriate as a minimum, whenever possible. But 'Concession' is often my middle name, for the sake of expediency as my years to ride declines.
