Last fall I was dealing with some mysterious pain in my lower back which extended down my legs. Naturally I ignored it and HTFU and soldiered on. By the beginning of the year it got bad enough that I tried taking a week off to no avail and then 2 weeks off. Then my A Fib incident happened and I was dealing with other problems. After 2 and half weeks I did my jailbreak ride and it was worse.
I went to the Orthopedic Doc today and he took an x-ray that showed a compressed disc L5 or 6 can't recall. Not real conclusive but I preferred a conservative approach with methylprednisolone 6-5-4-3-2-1 treatment and see how it goes. If I don't get better, an MRI and possibly an injection to treat the pinched nerve could ensue. At this point I can't remember not being in pain.
I'm hoping to ride at some point. At night it keeps me up and I'm worried about taking much since I'm on the blood thinner. Good times.
An added treat? I just got to unplug a garbage disposal that my wife F'd up for the umpteenth F'ng time. Next house i remove that SOB before I settle in.

Both legs? Doug, if there are really symptom in both legs and it’s a disc, that’s a so-called central herniation, which has some additional implications. If it doesn’t improve soon, get that MRI. Actually, get it anyway. The plain X-ray is no way to diagnose this issue.
Be sure you are on a maximal dose of Tylenol round the clock. Talk to someone who knows what they’re doing about non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs with your blood thinner, and if you need an opiate, ask for it. Transforaminal injections can be very helpful and got me through a bad herniation without surgery. A good one will greatly reduce your pain med requirement for about six weeks.
Please excuse the unsolicited advice.

The pain is mostly from sitting all day and isn't excruciating or debilitating but I can't wait to feel normal. It is a burning feeling and is really bad on the bike. The legs are not as painful as much as a weird, low level twitching or pulsing that drives me crazy when I'm trying to sleep. If I'm distracted isn't as noticeable. The burning feeling when I sit is on both sides. No way is it on the level of opiates. I wouldn't take those until I was at end of my rope and I'm not there yet. Unless I get better with the stuff he gave me i'll be getting the MRI. I'm getting close to my $7,150 max out of pocket already. I guess no crabon wheels this year.

I read the instructions that came with the disposal in our new house and basically, after reading the list of foods that you aren’t supposed to run through it, I determined that it’s a worthless appliance.

We had no disposal in our last place where I lived for 16 years. Mrs John used to wish for one often. Now we have one and she put a bunch of potato peelings in it on Thanksgiving and plugged up the trap and drain pipe. Nice project for me before dinner.
Now the thing has rusted through and we can't use that sink because it drains into the cabinet below. I should tell the landlord but I don't want him here.
We had an industrial disposal when I worked at a hospital kitchen. It would devour anything, bones, a water glass, whatever you put in it.

The 1947 plumbing in our kitchen was not designed for the 1980s renovation the former owner did. The kitchen drainpipe goes into the wall and takes an immediate right angle. Use of the disposal to grind more than a very little of anything clogs it like nobody's business. So, we use it as little as possible. Still trying to communicate this to The Older Boy, who tends to use it WAY too much.

By getting run off the road, I mean people are in such a hurry that they can't yield the right of way. I live in a village of under 10,000, and everybody's in such a damn hurry. Where do they have to be ten minutes ago?. Machismo, of course, is part of it. Always machismo. But I have two bikes ready for the morning. One road; one off road. The off road might have a pinch flat though. Mounting a tire isn't as straightforward as it used to be. Vamos a ver

Got to ride my bike yesterday, it snowed the whole time but it was fun. Came to the realization that pushing the 38mm wide stock knobbies on that thing around is tough.
still waiting on results from the kids COVID tests. They’ve been quarantined with their mom for a week, hoping they can come here soon. The lab their test was sent to is in Nashville. So I guess there are delays.
We had tests yesterday as a “just in case”

I made a deal with Mrs datlas yesterday. I would snow-blow the driveway if she snow-raked the roof.
This morning I heard the drip-drip of leaking from Hannah’s bedroom. Stupid ice dam. I may need to send my wife back to snow raking school.

Oh yeah - a lot more work. Not surprisingly, some gravel tires are faster than others, though. I've only tried a few, but the G-One Allround are my favorite so far (I almost bought another pair yesterday - I totally don't need them, but tan sidewalls are worth $80, right?). What's on your wheels now?
