Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I've gained about 7 pounds back over the last month and a half so even my dismal 2.4 w/kg on Intervals is inflated

Given how late in the season you got your PM, you probably haven't put in the max efforts. You may be pleasantly surprised when you go out there and try to blow chunks. With the default settings, I believe the algorithm looks at everything over 180 seconds.

Yeah, the vast majority of power data is from the trainer so that will be interesting to see what happens when I start riding outside more.

Looks like we have rain in the forecast for early next week - hopefully the county won't put anymore salt down so the roads can get cleaned off and I can start riding the power meter bike outside again.

My figures look miserable in light of the trainer-only power data for the last few months. I really haven't done any sprints or any all-out efforts longer than 3 min in that period of time, so my eFTP just keeps withering away I've been thinking that I should do some vomitous trainer efforts just to bump those numbers, but a) hurts and b) what if I try and fail to bump them?!

I simply don't have the short-duration power to hang with the crit packs in my Zwiftpower category, but I've been doing some pretty frisky group rides and some ITTs, which are fairly motivating, especially with the right music. My consensus estimated indoor FTP from Zwiftpower and Intervals has come up about 15 W since the Fall, some of which may be getting used to the trainer, but it's still at least 5% lower than what I'm guessing outdoor power is. We'll see...

Now is the time to **** or get off the pot. If I don't have my base in the bank by now, I did it wrong. Everything is starting to ramp up, including weights. Not volume, but max.

Trainer power is weird. I certainly can't hit peaks like I can outside - just having the bike bolted in place under me assures that - but in some ways it's easier for me to lock in to sustained efforts. While it's not exactly hilly in my area, it's not pan flat, and there's always enough undulations that I need to shift, shift, shift to stay where I want to be in terms of torque. That's annoying and it ends up being an over/under session more than anything.

I found a new series for the trainer, too. Line of Duty shows good promise.

@90kg, that would mean 360 for me.

Given where you live, the amount of nutrition in your environment, and your earnest pretensions to fitness, I can't believe you haven't jumped on the smart trainer bandwagon yet!

Based on the Zwift Ramp Test, mine is allegedly 290, but I can't manage the workouts like SST at the wattages that yields. I can do it if I set FTP to 260, so I'm thinking 260 is the more accurate number.

Rock/R&B, soul, classic salsa, cumbia, morna, samba, afro-pop, etc: anything non-cheesy, played by real people on real instruments, and uptempo with a driving beat.
