May I assume you've got the parts and cost for each bike on a list or spreadsheet somewhere, so you'll be ready for discussions with the police and insurance adjustor?

....Or with the occasional random recumbent rider who happens to come along as you're trying to deal with a flat tire?

So please outline how this mythical conversation went. You see someone walking as you cruise along, look up at this person (being on a recumbent and all), and ask if everything is ok. Find out that they had a flat, had been walking for 5 miles, and still have 5 miles to go. Ask if they had a patch kit or other basic supplies followed up are you aware that that is highly recommended? Then determine that they should have known better and said tough to be you. What would you have done if their seat bag had fallen off or been stolen at a coffee stop? What if they were new to the sport and did not know better? If it was a fellow recumbent rider, Birkenstocks and all?
So all your attacks are the usual bull schidtt, from the same few, trying to make me out the bad guy. But let me state this, to offend me, first I would have to respect your opinion, but I dont, and let your snide remarks roll off like water on a ducks back.
OH----------and BTW this last week end I rode my trike in perfect comfort 65 miles. Not too bad for an 84 year old-------------right********************?

The actual conversation went like this. Bike trouble?? Yes, flat tiire, I got a huge screw in my tire. I have a patches and a pump. Thanks but the hole is too big for a patch, and the tire will have to be thrown away too. Well ok, so, how far have you walked, and how far do you have to go? About 5 miles, and 5 miles to go. And that was about all that was said. As I stated before, I didnt demand to see the tube or the hole. He was the one that said it was too big to patch.

BTW if he would have told me he had a tube but it would only blown out the hole in the tire, I would have said-------lets fix it since I carry boots for a tire.

I've got a Brooks saddle, so the Berthoud and RH tires would take me from $2500 to $2800. I'm not sure where the line between misdemeanor and felony theft is in my state, but if anyone steals my bike, I want them charged with a felony, so I want to be able to back up my claimed value.

Everybody stops to help me when I flat on my recumbent. They usually talk real slow with small words, sometimes they offer to call me caregiver or give me a ride back to my facility. The best was a pretty young racer chick, what kit on her. Best I get on my racing bike is, "Good?"...."Yup" and a thumbs up.

I salute you! I don't have the organizational skill or drive to keep everything together and current. Maybe I'll pull everything I can find together from my latest bike purchase and at least start a file to throw everything into.

It's Tuesday..... It's probably Ice Cream Day back at the "home" and they wouldn't want you to miss it!

My mother is the same age as rydabent . She forgets a lot of things, even within a conversation.

I think it is great he apparently shows no signs of that.

Perhaps. When I have a bar bag on my road bike, I have a second tube in there. Otherwise, there is only room for 1 tube in my wedge bag. Thats where a patch kit comes in handy. For the rarest of instances when I get a flat and then manage to get another flat on the same ride. Its happened...never.
But yeah, 2 tubes is twice as good as 1 tube.
