I've still heard nothing (neither here, on CR, nor in response to my texts and emails).
I wrote a script to download as much as I could from the Wayback Machine. I've had to work my way through various problems, but hope to have whatever the Internet Archive has in two or three days. (I'm trying to be careful not to piss anyone off with a bunch of rapid queries, and the site is generally kinda slow.)

Many assume the brands themselves create and support these sites. That is not the case. It takes a dedicated volunteer, someone willing to collect ($$) and then scan in all the material, and then organize it into a usable site. A labor of love for sure.
Vintage Trek is the best of all of the vintage bike sites, no doubt. There is so much garbage out on the web, then rarely there is a very useful site. Hopefully it will be back!!

I use that site surprisingly often. It was extremely helpful with parts, date codes, serial numbers, catalogs, etc. It helped convert me to a Trek-o-phile. I immediately turned here when I found it down and am not surprised to see a thread already started.
I hope the owner is OK. I’m glad to know the knowledge is being preserved, but hope we can get word from the original creator before we jump ahead with a recreation of the site.

I have downloaded a number of pdf files from vintage-trek over the years and can make those available for someone who wants to recreate as much of the site as possible.
As I'm sure many here have, and would, in case the site doesn't return.
Didn't we take up an collection plate for the proprieter a ways back for a frame? I recall kicking in for that.

It probably doesn't help much, but I do have the '94 and '95 catalogues and spec manuals.
ETA: Has anyone tried contacting Host Papa?
ETA again: I contacted them and the site was closed for non-payment, the customer service rep said back in February?!? It's available for sale. It's been more than six months, so he doesn't think they still have a backup of the website, but he's going to check. HTH. Oh, and PS It seems Skip is a nickname; I couldn't quite understand the first name the rep gave. A proper first name might help in finding him, if anyone knows.
The Humboldt Trails Council once lost our domain name because someone forgot to pay the fee; it got snatched by a bot, and we had to pay $300 to get it back. Not making that mistake again.

Any price mentioned for the domain? If it expired, I'm kinda surprised a bot didn't snatch it. I know from experience that it's hard to unsee what these cretins use snatched domains for.

Thanks. I am crawling the Wayback Machine (743 pages out of about 1250 at the moment). If I find pages missing I will post.
I also contacted Host Papa (last week). Whoever I exchanged messages with didn't think they had any backups either. OTOH, the Wayback Machine crawler got some valid subset of pages in early November I think. I won't attempt to suss out the logic of not having a backup of a recently active site in the past six months.

No price mentioned, but somehow vintagetrek.com hasn't been snatched up. Yet. And yes, the things I can't unsee; I will never go back to the Eureka Broadway corridor plan website ever again. Blech.

Whois says it expires in 2027. What exactly would be for sale? If the domain is registered and expires in 2027, then how could it be for sale? Or are they just selling the files? Who exactly gave them the ok to offer it for sale? If you don't pay for your hosting fees does that mean it becomes the property of the hosting company? That sounds kind of sketchy. But what do I know.

Like any rental, if you stop paying, then the owner (in this case Host Papa) will lock you out and pile all your stuff on the lawn. Sounds like Host Papa owns the domain until 2027, when they'll have to buy it again. From my conversation with the customer service rep, it sounds like they keep (copies of?) the files for six months then delete them, and vintage-trek.com stopped paying rent in February.

it’s not VintageTrek, it’s Vintage-Trek Skip’s domain is active till 2027. Skip’s name was Douglas C Echert. His business site is down as well. I couldn’t find an obituary and I’ve reached out to his family. I have Vintage Trek Bicycles on Facebook and bought the domain vintagetrekbicycles.com. I and a volunteer are planning to build a community board similar to this great site and incorporate as much info as we can.

Looks like there was a www.vintagetrek.com back in 2004... the Wayback Machine doesn't have all of the pictures, but it seems to have mostly been a personal page for a handful of people?

Great news Trek marketing department reached out to me and asked what help I needed or information to reactivate a vintage Trek web page.
