Picked up another pair of Magped and some new MTB shoes to go with the pedals as I work with my wife to get more comfortable with clipless. Also picked up some Shimano GE5 shoes.

Yea, they are fantastic. I had some Time ATAC's that were not on a bike, that I put on my Stages Bike and when my wife wanted to start riding more, I got her some gravel type shoes and put some cleats on them. She had such a hard time clipping in and out, might take her 5 to 10 mins to get both feet in. With these, there is a metal plate that attaches to the shoe that the magnet clips on to. Has a ton of float and versus rotating your heal to unclip, you roll your foot to the outside and the lower magnetic attraction will allow you to pull your foot. Its a very sweet system. The magnets I have on the gravel version of the pedals I currently on the stages bike, the 200nm type, super strong, and maintain a very strong pull. I tried to pull my foot out and just could not do it. She was able to use these without issue within 30 seconds once she figured out how to place her foot to have the magnet attach to contact plate. She told me best purchase ever. If I did not like my ATAC's so much, I would not hesitate to put the Gravel versions on my bikes. I decided to go with the flat pedal version this time as she already has flat pedals on her bikes and is comfortable with them, so I bought these to get her used to them, then I can pick up another pair later to put on her bike. The down side is I needed to pick up a couple pairs of shoes with the flat bottoms. She has some flats she uses now, but, they do not have the ability to put cleats on them and I do not have any flat shoes.

They have a few different version, they have double side flats as well, but I did not think we needed that inside, but when I put some on her bike, I will get the double sided versions.

I have two boys, two years apart, it was touch and go there for a while whether there was enough food on the planet for them. We finally started just buying food we knew they would not eat and that seemed to do the trick. It was a great day for our wallets when they moved out.

Decided I did not really like the Zipp Service Course XPLR bars for my Checkpoint, so picked up the Ritchey WCS Carbon Streem II bars. I have them on my Domane and Emonda and they are very nice.

Picture please. I’ve been debating back and forth on those bars. I’m terrible at looking at bars naked and making a desicion weather or not I like them. The Ritchey stream II just look ugly naked but it doesn’t mean they are.


My FSA A wing pro bars mounted on my bike look nothing like the naked picture. I feel like I am using the work “naked” out of context.

I am running SRAM AXS on my Domane, Emonda, and Checkpoint, so no gear cables, but the brake lines routing for the Gen 4 Domane and the Checkpoint in the future is\will not terrible with them. On my Emonda, which is rim brake, the brake cables are a piece of cake. They bars come with a small cable sleeve which you can use to run through the bars easily as running cable housing (jagwire) was a bit tight, but it will fit, but I thought it was just a bit awkward. They fit my hands nicely and are super comfy, even if I need to get small to stay out of the wind more and ride on the tops with my forearms. I highly recommend them. And the bar tape on my Domane is Cannondale Knurltack, really like it.

After having flared, not having it is Just my preference.

I am not a huge flare person either, but the 1% of the Ritchey bars are just enough to keep my arms off the underside of the tops. Too much flare make me very uncomfortable in the drops on my shoulders. So running a 40mm means the drops are right around 40.5 on the drops. The Zipp bars however, are 40 up top and 42 in the drops. 42 is too wide for me for comfort which is why I decided to get rid of them.

I have the Zwift Hub with the cassette, not the Hub One with the virtual shifting.

It works fine, nothing to complain about. Simple to set up, and it just works.

I realized that with winter rain I needed a way to work on my core muscle strength and the best way to do this was to get a power rack for weight training. It takes up a 6x6 foot space in my garage which is all I had available.

On the hills it is my back and core muscle strength that is being utilized and weight training should minimize the time needed to get into shape when the weather improves. It also is important as my torso is what takes the hit in installing my 50 lb bike rack in the hitch or lifting our two bikes into the bed of my pickup truck.

Most places around my home are no longer safe for cycling with so many motorists in essence DUI as they focus more on their phones than on the road ahead.
