Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

When you guys start snorting caffeine... I'm in.

MY wife brought home a bag of double-dipped chocolate covered coffee beans the other day. I dislike chocolate covered beans but these were tremendous. Ate the whole bag about 5 PM. Insomnia button was pushed.

On the one hand I’m glad I didn’t have a daughter. But on the other hand, girls will always love their daddy. ❤️

Kudos. I hope my kids do this.

We actually had a real wedding but did not want our meddlesome parents involved other than attending, so we self-funded it and only splurged on the venue and the caterer. We asked our friends to take pics and check the box for 2 sets of pictures (remember those days?) so no photographer. I took my stereo and had a friend make a party tape (remember those?) so no need to pay for entertainment. We kept the guest list very tight (about 54 attendees which pissed off my parents but tougho lucko), and the whole price tag in 1991 dollars was about $3500.

Most of the people said it was one of the best weddings they ever attended.

Same. It cost $11.

Our friends/witnesses took us out for a fancy dinner afterwards.

also - tire selection can be significant

wider is almost always better - and for the technical stuff a tire with knobs will provide much greater traction than a slick tire

slick gravel tires are fine for easy riding on unchallenging terrain - but they are not ideal for the tough stuff (kinder / gentler more political way of stating they are not worth a *****)

Do ittttt, That's an elite level build too, do they have any lower spec models in? The supecaliber (at any spec) is going to be a way faster bike than the other one, shorter travel, steeper angels etc. Just sort of depends on what you want out of it. If you ever get interested in trying you could race the super, the other one not so much

Liz and I had planned on a big wedding in May of 2020.... we all know what happened that year. So we did the courthouse thing a month later and saved about 20 grand. We were going to get some help from our parents, but we were going to have to pay for most of the ~150 person event. My parents gave us another 20 grand (their approximate wedding contribution) and together that came in handy towards our home down payment a year later.

Three hard days in a row can be tough to handle. I rarely plan on that even when I was training unencumbered by baby or injury. But, you do have multiple days in a row off for work, so I guess you gotta try to cram.

Do you have four days to ride, or three? If four, I would make one of those an easy ride.

We had a party/reception about 6 months after. Went to this place in Essex MA where we’ve been hundreds of time for greasy fried clams and had a steak/lobster bake. Cost us about 4k for 35 people. It was a cash bar, but I covered the cost of that as well.

Bunch of folks stayed at the Hawthorn hotel in Salem so we partied there a bit after then went home to our place in Marblehead. The girls stayed with my mom at the hotel.

Between my siblings there were 16 weddings and my parents didn't have any money so they couldn't contribute. When my ex and I got married we had the ceremony in the mountains and a friend played acoustic guitar. The reception was at the community clubhouse, also free. 100 guests and food was from a local German restaurant.
Step-father in law took the pictures but he got the lighting wrong somehow. All the pics are too dark. Had a DJ and he only played 1 or 2 songs I had asked for. Played a lot of pop crap which I had told him not to play.
All things considered it went pretty well.
