Apple Watch records HRV at random times, when you are doing random things. This produces a useless measure of HRV. Pay no attention to those data!
Marco Altini, author of HRV4Training, writes (his emphasis):
"Finally, the Apple Watch is also able to measure HRV reliably when using the Breathe app, and can also be integrated with HRV4Training. If you are an Apple Watch user, please read this other post as well. As I will explain below, data automatically collected by the watch is of almost no use, and you need to take your measurements first thing in the morning (please see also this blogfor a deeper dive into the topic of night HRV data)...
"Despite the fact that no third-party app can control the Apple Watch or take an HRV reading, the Breathe app that comes with the Watch, consistently pushes HRV data to Health every time you use it.Hence, you can, as a matter of fact, trigger an HRV reading using the Breathe app first thing in the morning, and disregard the rest of the data that is automatically collected."
I take an HRV measurement with the Apple Watch Breathe app, first thing in the morning, seated. I ignore all the other HRV data the watch collects.

Right, I’m not using the apple data just the garmin data, was just sharing an observation I had.

I'm on vacation this week, so I get to miss a 6 AM PDT meeting with a potential vendor tomorrow.

Just a staycation. Mrs. GJ is out of town visiting friends in SoCal, so I'm just taking Rango for walks, doing a bit of yard work (when it's not raining), etc. I'll probably do some medium length rides later in the week, if it stays dry.

You know, people pay good money to come to the Bay Area on vacation.
Seriously, though - when I'm working, by Saturday my mind rebels against having to do anything. Then Sunday, I ride. And then it's Monday. But if I take a week off, I might actually get something accomplished.
Or not!

The water is 56 degrees at Stinson Beach today. So, no.

But not ruling out a warmer day!
Some years ago, my wife were walking down the beach at Stinson. It was September and the water and air was gold. We were wearing jackets. As we got to the south end, some guy runs out from behind a rock naked as a jail bird, and jumped into the surf. Frggin nuts!

I didn't get the memo about flipping it upside down. Someday I'll try it again, armed with this new information.
