Modifying MTB pedals so the pins don't ruin shoes...
Hi, I have some Nukeproof Neutron pedals I picked up nearly new.
They are great! but the pins aren't kind to my shoes.
Has anyone found/ can anyone think of a way of making them more shoe friendly for everyday use?
love the grip - but id trade it out to an extent for not wrecking my shoes.
- Not I'm not ooking for alterntive pedals - I'd rather find a way to modify these ones.
e.g. one idea might be to just use 8mm pins instead of 10mm and see if that helps - but a more rounded, less sharp pin would be good... all ideas welcome
Thanks

Maybe you could fill some silicone glue around the pins. It would wear away eventually, though.

I'd start with the shorter pins and go from there. Good luck.

I have MKS Lambada Grip King pedals on my sons and my bicycle when I am not using clipless pedals. They work for me and my feet don't move around.

Buy $5 plastic pedals and tape them to the top of your metal pedals.

Use shoes without the problems. My Brooks don't have issues with my Crank Brothers Stamp 7s with pins. They did occasionally get my shins early on when I first had the pedals but that is a rare occurrence now.
If you are having issues you could remove some pins or get shorter pins or dial in the current pins.

Assume you otherwise don't wear sneakers? In which case just treat them as a normal wear item and treat yourself to new ones every 6 months or so.I have to replace my sneakers every 4-5 months or I risk serious back pain since I have to have ones that correct my gait. The tread being damaged in that amount of time is a non-issue. I'm running rock bros on my gravel, crank bros on my mtb and race face on my road/cross bike; so far shoe wear hasn't been an actual issue. This week I noticed the tread on my current pair is worn down nearly flat after only 3 months which I chalk up to time now spent in the gym, but I didn't notice any pin damage and mine are New Balance which I doubt does anything special for the actual rubber.

I don't worry about the pedals. I wear a pair of hiking shoes that have very tough soles which are also much stiffer than running shoes.
If you wear soft soled shoes, the rubber will squirm and be torn up by the pins

Those pins can be removed. Maybe just leave enough to give you grip but not cause a shoe issue.
