My holiday pay came in this month and we're in the home stretch for preparations for my tour.

On my last trip I noticed some issues with the brakes when they got wet. The pad holder post was slipping under pressure. That could either be a scratched up post or failing clamping hardware.
Last time I had something like that happen I ended up descending from the top of a mountain with a single brake down 21% grades and walking quite a bit.

Searching for the best afforable and available cantilever brakes, I opted for the Shimano 105 BR-CX50. Still waiting for the Ultegra R55c3 pad holders to slip in some Koolstop pads.

So today the brakes arrived, same with the extra thick Silca Nastro Cuscino bar tape, a small jar of chamois cream and the small aerothan tube. I ordered some cheaper TPU tube knock-offs from AliExpress to see how those perform.
The gear list can be found on; Lighterpack with weights and links to the items themselves. Still being fine-tuned.

Got my hands on a second-hand Velogical rim dynamo. Always wanted to use one of these, it's absolutely tiny. About the size of a €2 coin.
I do not currently have a bike that this one would be needed on, but that just means I have an excuse to look for a nice road bike in my size.

Today I got in a new set of MKS Sylvan Touring Next Pedals for the Azor bike. I've had a set of these on the Guv'nor for awhile now and they are so smooth.

Also got in 4 new Vittoria Latex tubes to be used as needed.

Assembled a new cockpit for the Fuji. Wider bars and Ortlieb bag are from Mad Honk. Longer stem is from hazetguy. I ordered the Ortlieb mounting kit from my LBS, Bucephalus Bikes.

After years of lusting over them I finally pulled the trigger on some NOS Campagnolo Monoplaner brake caliper. Got what looked like the best deal on Ebay. Then a day later I saw an even better deal here that I had somehow missed. So today I had two sets of NOS Monoplaner's come in.



Now to decide on what get's them. The candidates are the Motta, Paletti, and the Sancineto.

And I also got in a nice set of used Fulcrum Racing 1 wheels with a Shimano freehub. Most likely going on the CT1 with it's soon to be Dura Ace build.

I have a pair on my Serotta. The prettiest brakes Campagnolo ever made, IMO. They are also excellent stoppers. I had to fiddle around to set them up on a frame that required nutted brakes. It also took me a while to come around to the later brake levers, which I have never thought as attractive as earlier Record levers. Still, they are required if you want a quick release.

Love MKS's Next models. Those 3-4 sealed bearings in a pedal makes them extremely smooth.

A 1988 Giant Expedition frameset. I'd been looking for one of these for quite a while.



It dates from the time that Koga (of Koga-Miyata fame) were importing these frames from Taiwan and building them up for the European market, as more affordable alternatives to their Koga-Miyata models, in a bike market where expensive bikes were suffering because of an economic recession. The Expedition was one the most expensive models, and this example was probably one of the last to have come from the Koga facility.

It has been repainted and it wears some battle scars, but I don't mind. The size is just the way I like it: tall and short (66cm x 57cm) for a comfy fit. A randonneuse-like 72° seat tube angle and a plethora of eyelets and other braze-ons. I am looking forward to building and riding this one.

Today brought in a spur of the moment buy from Shop Dog Bikes. Not that I need another set of these but you can't have too many shop tools. Smiles, MH

I'm not sure about the vintage of the tool, but it looks to be complete with little use. The dies don't have huge thread cutter spacing like some of the others I have, but appear to be fine.

Some assembly required, but I think I can figure it out, and if not, I can ask the BF members to help me.

I got the first of two deliveries for my next project. I placed both orders last Sunday. This one was shipped from Universal Cycles' Beaverton location, which Google Maps tells me is a 90 minute walk from my house (4 miles). Some of the parts had to be brought in from another warehouse. The other order is currently in a distribution center in London.



Those who have seen my currently active build thread (except for AMCO) will be glad to know that these parts are NOT going on the Huffy.
