Used to be Conspiratemus
And it fired a barrage of small(ish) unguided rockets in one salvo from a ring of tubes mounted around the nose, intended target being a Soviet bomber in a head-on attack, i.e., a different mission from the regular F-86. The radar + computer was meant to tell the pilot the exact moment to let fly in the hopes of scoring a hit and then peeling away just in time not to collide. This idea led to a series of large, purpose-built all-weather interceptors (F-89, CF-100, F-94) distinguished visually by large rocket pods usually at the wingtips and a two-man crew (one guy to work the radar.) I think some of the American ones carried 100 rockets. For a bit of a laugh (because no one was hurt, just scared sh1tless), read the Wikipedia account of the Battle of Palmdale [California]. Things that only geeks like us discover on our own.

Not lost wanderer.
Just an elephant giving blessing along the road, for $10 you can have it spray you from its trunk.

Suburban NJ...
The local MUP is often part of my route, esp. weekday evenings and rainy days. Lots of birds, furry things, and deer, lots of deer. Sometimes they just watch me pass, occasionally they bound along the verge 10-20 yds. ahead of me, just loping along, unhurried, until they find the right(?!) gap in the underbrush... But until today, it's only been does this year. Probably seen 30-40 or so along this 4 mile stretch, so far. Today was my first buck, a youngster, 6 points with really plush looking velvet on a small patch of open ground. No phone, no pic, but sweet.

There must have been a turtle-world-wide memo to say hi to C&V cyclists this week!

This is along my commute to a new position I begin in August. I had to google it. Pigeon Racers look like us! And there is parking for 20+ cars!

Snapped this cement mixer drum while on a ride a couple years ago.
Is it cheating if I already knew it was there? It's been there since about 1963, the truck it came from was headed to a job site in the country, he turned onto a gravel road from the highway at a blind intersection and ran right into a Township road grader. It twisted his truck like a pretzel and the loaded drum rolled into the deep ditch, he had to be cut out of the cab but survived. Over the years the ditch filled in and at one point only a very small patch of the drum about a foot square was visible. Several years ago they widened the highway and cut back the banks along the gravel road to improve visibility and opened the ditches back up which unburied the drum. It's only about 50 feet off a main highway but very few people now even know it's there much less the story behind it.
I was in grade school when this happened, the cement truck driver's daughter was in my class in school and they lived 2 blocks up the street from us. The Ready Mix he drove for was the same distance in the other direction from us. The body shop/towing company that pulled the remains of the truck in was between our house and the Ready Mix and another friend's Dad owned the body shop and was driving the tow truck. Yet another friend's Dad was the Chief of our volunteer fire dept. and helped cut him out. Ahhh, life in a REALLY small town.........
