Biking from LA River Trail to San Pedro?
I have this crazy idea to bike to Catalina Island without using a car. I can get to the LA River Trail pretty easily. All island arrangements are already planned. All of this will be on a holiday weekend.
But I need to get to the Catalina Express which leaves from San Pedro:
95 Berth, San Pedro, CA 90731
Google Bikes says to get off the LA River at PCH, take Anaheim -> Alameda -> Gibson
Any recommendations?

Your plan will work down to San Pedro. The Alameda area is pretty 'gritty' due to all the container terminals, with their truck traffic, and oil refineries in the area, but if you're going through on a holiday the truck traffic should be minimal. Not sure how you'd get to the proper dock once you're on the San Pedro side of the harbor, you'll have to consult google maps or similar.

I suggest getting off LART at Anaheim>Alameda>Harry Bridges>Gibson>Front St.> go under the Vincent Thomas Bridge and left at Swinford St. and that takes you right to the Catalina Express. EZPZ

i like Unapomer's route. personally...haven't had any serious traffic issues weekdays riding that route in either direction.
streets are actually wider than most we're used to. my biggest issues are the cavalcade of railroad tracks just north of the
vincent thomas bridge and the amount of detritus in the bike lane/shoulder between anaheim and the catalina express terminal.

Remember you'll need a pass to ride on any of the dirt trails on Catalina.
