While not real high end it does look to be in good condition with fairly good parts with a fairly good hard frame with bi-plain fork and nice paint. Old enough that makers were still putting nicer stuff on and a bit of effort into into mid level stuff. Looks like it would make a nice commuter casual rider close to as, For value if all works good with the fairly nice rack and fenders I think you could go $200 or so and be fine maybe $250 if you really like the bike. This one gets a bit of premium for being mostly original with nice paint and what looks to be good riding condition with a reasonable set up, most bikes like this are not.

This is my kind of bike! Early, 81~83 judging by the components and lugged fork. As early on manufacturers were putting their best foot forward there is a good chance it has a tange double butted tubing. Those Suntour thumb shifters are awesome. Suntour Lepree, quill pedals, dia compe brakes, it checks all the boxes.
You don't say where you are. As soft as the market is I would be lucky to get $100 for it and in the middle of winter I would be lucky to give it away. But the other consideration is that if you are just buying transportation, $200 would not be unreasonable for the amount of bike you would be getting. Go check what $200 buys you at the local store nowadays.

Raise the seatpost, change the bars, and that thing looks pretty well setup to rule the barren landscape as you travel west. Sell the hides along your journey that you collect on the rack.

Picked the bike up yesterday. 100% original with owners manual. Some paint missing in spots, but my daughters fingernail polish should solve that problem.

Wow that's a very good silly low price. You did great as for tubing there is likely some markings info on the fork steerer tube if you pull it.

You did fantastic. Regrease everything and you should get at least another 40 years out of it.
To me is amazing how the early participants in the mountain bike craze went all out in producing the best bike they could. By mid 80's the pressure from cheap mass builders began to mount, and then the strengthening of the Japanese yen against the US dollar rendered a lot of Japanese offerings too expensive to compete in the marketplace.
Any early mountain bike with a lugged fork is worth a second look.
