Just a week or so ago i wrote this




The other two times i have been hit my tire was just pushed or hit.

This time it was a lot more serious. I was knocked off my bike and flew about five feet. Pretty much everything is bent and twisted. Even seat is bent and twisted.

I was crossing a intersection and the guy was turning. He wasnt looking as to where he was driving i assume. I noticed this just intime to turn as hard as possible to make sure the rear of my bike was facing him..

I got away with a bruised hip and a red patch next to my elbow.


Thank god i knew what to do and acted quickly enought..

I cant wait to get my next bike!

This was a hit and run? If so, call the police ASAP!

Did you have a camera? You may want to review the footage, so that you could watch for the warning signs next time, or so I'm told.

I couldn't have gotten his name & number if it was a hit and run.

Hes agreed to settle. Cost of my bike and a bit more. (Transportation while i wait for it)

I asked because I wasn't sure since your original post said "I got the guys name number license plate companies info". Maybe it was a delivery vehicle that had that information on it.

Some advice to you next time. Unless you have witnesses and their contact information you should always get an accident report otherwise they can play hardball or could have given you false information. They can also flat out deny the accident happened especially if they find out your bike was worth any serious money.


Crossing intersection also sounds like you were riding on the sidewalk which you shouldn't have been doing because drivers are glancing at who is entering the crosswalk and turning away again to look at traffic. They're not expecting runners or bikers at higher rates of speed to approach that quick.

OP just said he was crossing an intersection. He probably had a green and the guy was turning right on red or something, and didn't see him coming. Or he could have been standing with the bike to cross at a crosswalk, and then hopped on when at the green light/walk symbol, and again gotten hit by the van turning right on red. I did not see anything in the OP that would indicate he was riding on the sidewalk.

Glad to hear it sounds like you are not injured too badly. Keep an eye out for any new pains in the back and neck especially and if you experience anything go see a doc.

But then where will he be left if the driver suddenly changes his story, especially when he finds out it's going to cost a pretty penny? Hopefully OP has video.

This is Flushing, Queens and is part of NYC, and just for the record, there are very few "turn on red" intersections in NYC. So for the OP to say he got hit while crossing the intersection could only mean it was a two way Street and he was riding the other way crossing the intersection or he was in the pedestrian crosswalk which means he came of the sidewalk. I'm just pointing out from a driver's perspective that if he was coming off the sidewalk why he may have gotten hit. Did not mean to imply that he was on the sidewalk though.

+1 to this. If the police were not called, then the driver can deny the accident. It does not matter what he said at the time of the accident. This same scenario just happened to a friend of mine. The guy admitted fault, but then changed his statement to the insurance company. Since my friend did not have a police report, he could not prove who was at fault for the accident.

It's way too late for that, if a police report wasn't filed, it wasn't filed.

If the OP wants to trust the person to do the right thing, I think he can make that decision for himself.

That's moot, if he has no police report or names of witnesses.

Obviously it is too late for that. It is just important that in the future, it is best to get a report to reduce the risk of a person betraying their word.

I think i made all the mistakes in the book. I didnt call the police and i didnt take a video. I did take some photos but its just the truck my broken bike and the guy. I wish i done more i wasnt prepared for such a thing.

I was about 50 feet from my house. It was a red so i walked my bike to the corner and when the light changed i mounted my bike and started moving to enter the park across the street. I wasnt going fast the guy drove and turned into me with out braking at all.

Here a cam would have been nice. This is a learning experience for you. Make sure to get a report next time, take a picture of your bike, the vehicular, any injury on you, his licence plate and get all his info.

Is it just me, or does anyone else doubt this happened?

Does not sound too far fetched. When I was younger someone backed into me and wanted just to pay me for the damages right then and there. I tend to go through insurance companies if something happens mainly because of medical stuff.
