Actually looks like a much earlier model. Does it have the "Gt" cut-out on the BB shell? Does the top-tube lettering read "Record" or "Super Record".

Anyway, it's pre '78. Nice one!

Yes it does have the GT cutout! I have no idea when they stopped making that. It says Super Record on top.
I haven't seen anyone have the GT cutout. Does that mean its worth more?

The brakes are nutted as well, not recessed allen. I had a HECK OF A TIME finding center bolts for them. I got the center bolts from Stuyvescent bike shop in NYC. They had drawers of organized bike parts. You go in, look through the campy book, and then tell them you want part 123xyz, and they get it out of the drawer. (Nelson Vails was working there at the time before he started working at Toga bikes)

Ahhh, memories.

The brake levers are BRAND SPANKING new. I bought them around '86 but I wanted to ride the bike with the newfangled Shimano Aeros. I got s**t for it cause the bike was all campy and I put Shimano aero levers on it. The "new" Campy aero levers were out of my league. So I put the levers in a ziplock ( with the cables and housing and yes if you look closely at the end of the cables, it has the <C> for Campagnolo on it), and didn't put it on the bike until last year.

Its THE only bike that I have affection for. I've had a lot of nice steel bikes too (Somec, Viner, AD...)

Probably about a '76 or so. Definitely worth more than a post '78 version, as they are more asscociated with the Brooklyn era bikes.

It's a keeper for sure.

I see you found the right solution to the short top tube. I know one other rider who used a 14cm stem.

My 61 was purchased at the end '79 at Green Mountain Schwinn. My build is all arms and legs, so the short top tube is perfect for me. In the paint was so bad I had it painted. I was so angry about the original finish I didn't care about duplicating the color or the replacing the decals. I was going through a powder indigo period at the time, I think.

I think it looks great. That's the bike that appears in 1976 "A Sunday in Hell". Awesome.

Gios Nuovo Compact.
It has a rusted top tube, which I'm debating getting fixed. I ride it in it's current state, but I don't know how safe it is.

I think chrome forks were around 1979 or 80. I bought the "kit" around that time which came with frame, fork, pantographed chainring, stem, seatpost, GIOS cap, and a very cool wool Ijsoboeke jersey. In fact I still have the original cardboard box with styrofoam insert and all those plastic GIOS medal-like tags that were on every part. Also I have the jersey, however I think it has shrunk since it won't fit my 12 year old son.

There was a guy in one of my Bike Maintenance classes who had one of these. Didn't know anything about it - his father left it for him when he passed away. Sweet bike.

Bikes on this page are mint.
Err, minus the rusty one of course. Please don't die.

hi everyone,

I am to buy a new Gios fork, but can't decide between steel and carbon. is there anyone who used both? there are big difference between weight datas: steel is 630 gramm on offical site and 726 gramm at excelsport. with carbon its the same: 410 vs 450. I would be interested if anyone measured it.

great looking Gios everyone. I had a mid '80 for a few years. the one with the medallions on the fork crown. unfortunatly it was a bit big and I need the funds for something else, so it had to go. it was a nice frame and wish I could have kept it.

To bump this thread, here's mine, all Campagnolo components including the seat post and clamps. This bike is surprisingly lighter than my single-speed 2009 Specialized Langster.

Okay, you've probably seen my Gios Torino Professional and Super Record sprinkled throughout BF, here it goes again. Oh, I ride my collectables, gives others the opportunity to see art on wheels for free(most art museums charge to see art)

1985 Gios Torino Professional with Campagnolo Record C, Columbus SL, Cinelli engraved handlebar and earlier Cinelli with oval and Cinelli front badge. Bought new has 25k, truly a rideable collectable!

My Gios Super Record with Campagnolo Super Record and Cinelli cockpit. Another rideable collectable!

Soon to be shown, Gios Compact!

If I don't ride what I have I sell!

Gios went for short top tubes early. I don't know if they started the trend, but were one of the early builders. Fortunately two of mine are the early ones with decent length top tubes. One is of the later coin in the crown type it has a 1 cm shorter top tube for the same sized frame.
The shorter top tube either trends the bars closer to you or places more weight over the front axle. On level ground, it works pretty well, on a descent, I find myself sliding back in the saddle to "feel" more in control.

My Gios' BB is stamped 60, the seat tube length c-t, and measures 58 cm c-c with a 56 cm top tube. I also slide back in the saddle on descents or when riding in the drops.

Since this thread got revived I can't resist posting pictures of my Gios again. A very early 80s (80 or 81) NOS Super Record. Full Campy Super Record except for the Modolo Professional brake set. Doesn't have any of the cool pantographed components but still a very sharp bike.
