Tucson - Ventana Canyon to Mt Lemmon?

Tucson - Ventana Canyon to Mt Lemmon?
So I am heading back to Tucson next week and want to ride up Mt. Lemmon (at least partway 
)
My problem is that from my hotel - Loew's Ventana Canyon - the route on google shows I have to dip down all the way south to Tanque Verde and then cut back north to clear Sabino Canyon/Bear Creek area on the way to the climb. Yet the way back shows an alternate route-- staying north on E. Snyder road and travelling through the Sabino Canyon area... and showing part of the road as a Toll Road?
Any locals know if this is a viable route both out to Mt Lemmon and back to Ventana Canyon? Staying north would allow me more time to climb, haha!

You pretty much have to go all the way down to Tanque Verde. There is a back way that accesses Snyder Road but you have to go through Canyon Ranch Resort and then cross a wash (walk for about 2 minutes followed by a dirt driveway for a few hundred meters). I take the back route this time of the year. If you can figure it out, just go slowly and be nice through the resort as they have been nice enough to let us cyclists through there. I suggest just going down to Tanque Verde and then you can stop at Le Buzz which is a very popular stop before the climb.
*edit* I don't know what you are seeing as a toll road, that doesn't exist. Maybe it is the gate for the resort.

Thanks... I tried to wander through the neighborhood but ended up turning around and heading down Sabino Canyon to Tanque Verde anyhow. I had a good ride but ran out of water going up, I thought there would be water at the campground/5-mile point. But a great day on the bike; always nice to ride in such different scenery.
