WTB: Tommasini Racing, Prestige or Super Prestige

Looking for a Tommasini Racing, Prestige or Super Prestige. Prefer frame and fork but will seriously consider entire bike. Preferred size would be seat tube 52 c-c (53 c-t). Thanks for any info!

I'd love to have a Diamante 59 x 57.5 TT if I could find one.

I would want that if it was my size, and less money. In my neighborhood as well.

Thank you Uyle, for posting the Craigslist ad. I have a search setup for Craigslist countrywide, but for some reason, it hasn't picked that one up yet. I have reached out to the seller. It may be slightly larger than I want, but I may consider it. It is definitely what am looking for, only question is the size. Looks like a 53 c-c on the seat tube, but the seller says it is 55 c-t which would make it about 53.7 on the seat tube c-c. Thanks again for the post..

Didn't show up in my search because it was listed under bicycle parts rather than bicycles, along with one other Tommasini frame. Might have to expand my search to include bicycle parts.
Update - Those two Los Angeles frames and a Tommasini stem are the only items showing up under bicycle parts.

There's another Tommasini frame in size 52 c-c but it's pricier than the red one above. Same seller.

The Tommasini stem is my post.

The second frame is technically a higher end model, much more recent model, with some nice features like chrome lugs, chrome rear triangle, an AIR fork, and cabling inside the top tube. Big difference in these two. Also SLX vs SL.

Let me tell you about this seller. I contacted him and asked if he would be willing to ship the red Tommasini Racing with asking price $550. He responded by quoting $800 shipped to my zip code. I told him I would pay him the $550 asking price and I would arrange pickup and shipping. He responded with $750. He did not answer my questions and insisted on $750 shipped to Virginia. He would not allow me to have someone pick up the frame and fork for his asking price. Anyone want to facilitate in Orange Co./Irvine CA? I'll front the money and you can pretend to be the interested buyer. I'll arrange for packing and shipping.

One other question - Both of these frames have a generous amount of paint on the inside of the seat tube at the top. Doesn't that indicate a repaint? Seller tells me paint is original.

Are you sure the 55cm C-T seat tube on the red Tommasini will fit you?

I can facilitate if you really want it. Pm me

Can’t say for a 100% certainty that red frame is a repaint but I’d bet on it.

Paint in the seat tube (for a builder/painter of this quality? Doubt it.), chrome head tube, chrome seat stay caps, and painted rear triangle. How often do you see any of that on an original paint Tommasini of this era let alone all of it? Seems strange.

I will gladly take you up on that bet, defiantly not a repaint, I would also put money on the top tube not being 54cm as stated, the front of that frame is long.

Definitely the red one is genuine original paint. I had an anthracite gray/marble Tommasini Super Prestige and paint was in the seat tube. Same with many of my other very nice frames, including a top-of-the-line Bianchi I just got. Overspray into the seat tube is a lot more common than one thinks, and anyway it doesn't hurt anything as long as it's not too thick.

At this point, I would agree that the red Tommasini has not been repainted. The rear triangle is not completely painted. If you look at the inside of the drive side chain stay you will see a long oval chrome section with a yellow border line on the inside of the chain stay (first 2 pictures below). The outer portion of the tube is painted. This was a defining characteristic of many of the Tommasini Racing models the company produced. This model is more accurately known as Strada. I have also seen the chrome treatment of the head tube on several of these older Strada models, This model preceded the Prestige bikes and for me is equally appealing for quality and style, particularly the beautiful fork crowns on these mid to late 70s and early 80s models. Both of the frames that this seller is offering have paint on the inside of the seat tube and I am not sure what to make of it. The seller has done extensive cosmetic work on the 52 cm Tommasini anniversary bike he is selling for $900 as it recently sold on eBay and the listing is still accessible through advanced search of completed or sold items. The frame sold for less than $650 (best offer accepted) and had a lot of wear showing, some of it fairly nasty (see the lug area in the picture below), and it is all cleaned up now. Perhaps the seller was trying out touch up paint and used the seat tube as a test area. All I know is every bike or frame that I have owned or considered buying has had a completely clean seat tube inside. To my way of thinking, paint on the inside of a seat tube is far and away the exception, not the rule, and I usually steer clear.

m_sasso, I am curious about this statement. Tommasini rarely had long top tubes. His bikes were primarily racing geometry and compact. What are you seeing that convinces you that the front of the frame is long. 54 or 54.5 would have been a standard length for this frame.

Tommasini in Iowa

Mine may be a little big. I just measured it. 22 inches from center of crank to center of top tube.

I'm actually headed up to Carroll in a week and a half. I might ping you before then. Your price is way high (I know from experience sadly).

I may get to 10 posts eventually, and then possibly see messages and post some pics of the Tommasini here.
