Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

*The Official Chinese/taiwanese bike thread*

I'm considering building one of these as a second bike. I'm going to sell my Orca soon and I'll definitely buy a nice brand name bike (to be decided), but I want to have a cheaper (nice looking) secondary bike.

If you got em, post it up and tell us about your good or bad experiences.

This is one of the non USA frames with Ultegra Compact double. 120 miles on it so far (since Dec.). It is sweet and handles very responsively. Michigan roads can certainly put it thru its paces. As long as all goes well (I expect it will), I will purchase another similar frame next fall and transfer a Ultegra 6603 group to it. So I am a fan, for what it is worth.

Here is my Habanero. Designed in USA. Made in China. Kinda like an iPhone.

Love it.

I can't compete with datlas for the tall bike prize. Here's my favorite of my three made-in-Taiwan bikes.

If memory serves, I think at 6'3" I might actually be taller. He's just got unique proportions.

Beats the hell out of me. The bike certainly works as advertised though (i.e., it doesn't beat the hell out of me).

I had a PF, which by definition qualifies here. Built up with Campagnolo Record and Ritchey carbon components. Extremely good bike. Wouldn't hesitate one bit to get another!

My made-in-Taiwan Raleigh USA Marathon:

A little tough to read, but does say Made in Taiwan under the tubing sticker

It developed some issues...

So now I'm rebuilding it with a 2-speed kickback hub.

It's still a work in progress.

Rowan and I both have titanium HASA frames:
https://www.hasabike.com.tw/

(Hasa Feng Bicycle Co., Ltd is a Taiwanese company, established in the 1990s.)

Rowan built mine up in mid-2010, and I've logged a lot of distance on it in that time. Very nice.

After building mine up, Rowan decided to get one himself, which he did in early-2011.

So ... which do you mean:

-- North American or European bicycles which are "made in Taiwan" (i.e. Trek, Giant, etc.)
-- Chinese knock-offs of North American or European bicycles
-- Bicycles manufactured by Chinese/Taiwanese bicycle manufacturing and distributing companies (i.e. Hasa Feng, etc.)
