So a good friend of mine is moving to central Virginia and is urging me to come down some time during the summer. He says the area is popping, and a lot of racers visit the shop he now works at.
So naturally, I'd love to go down around the same time as a big race. So to the guys in the area, what are some of the can't miss races in the area?
I'm most interested in races near Charlottesville.

Jefferson cup is today.
Wintergreen Ascent TT is May 2nd IIRC.

There's the Independence Day series in Roanoke. There's some races in Waynesboro that are supposed to be a good course. There's Page Valley RR in August.

I'd rather go in the summer, after they're completely settled in. And yes, he is in Cville, and is deep in MTBing, so he might finally get the chance to whip me on his familiar trails.

Check out the VAcycling website. They have a full calendar. The only two road events that are Charlottesville races are the Jefferson Cup (which was today) and Wintergreen. Page Valley is not too far away either. That is in the late summer. Otherwise, there are lots of races in Richmond and around DC, as well as some crits over in Virginia Beach and the odd road race out towards Roanoke and Blacksburg. Cville Racing Club has Tuesday and Thursday "group" rides. There is also a Saturday shop ride from Cville Bike and Tri that can be pretty sprightly. Those are fun if you want to go fast.

Otherwise, just go ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Well, you could ride to Richmond or Page Valley. All the really local races will be done by May. There is a monthly TT series near Charlottesville as well.
