In the entire month of December we got 14 minutes of sunshine. Literally. Today it was sunny all day. I went on a loooooongassed ride!

Bah I don't think its ever too cold to ride. Its just I didn't put on warm enough clothing to ride today.

I haven't experienced it yet. It's only been down to -10*F here in southern MI since I started cycling.

Back when I lived in the UP, it sometimes got down to -40*F. I think I would have given up before that. But I didn't cycle up there because noplace I needed to go was more than 1.5 miles, so I walked everywhere, including when it was -40*F. you can not have more than a few slivers of exposed flesh at those temps.

Plus you want glacier glasses - very very dark, probably 90% in a small horizontal band in the middle, 95+% top and bottom, with blinders on the side; or if the sun comes out you get dazzled.

the temp has never stopped me from riding. however, road conditions & storms have.

It's the surface conditions (like new snow) that give me trouble, not the cold so much.

I've ridden through it all, I kinda like the inclement weather ever once and a while.
It adds some extra challenge to it.

I suppose it all depends on where you live. I live smack dab in the middle of Boston so I'm hessitant about riding in snowy, icey conditions. Makes it harder to avoid car doors and then oncoming traffic, like those here---> https://www-personal.umich.edu/~riin/bikes/doorzone.htm

I do ride in the door zone sometimes, but I prefer to take my lane (that just upsets the monkeys behind the wheel though). When the weather is truly crappy I take the lane period. I logic it as I need enough room to fall over in either direction so that I don't fracture something falling onto the 8inch high sidewalk, hit the mailbox of other immovable object. That places me right smack in the middle of the curb lane, ok so be it. You don't like it, pass me on the left in the other lane, like you're supposed to. When it's that crappy out why can't driver's dole out a little caution for others?

you think they would show more caution but I just got rear ended in my car yesterday because of the "conditions". If they hit my car in such conditions I'd hate to see what would happen if they couldn't stop fast enough for me. I'll ride in all temps but when this race season is too important to me to risk riding in bad road conditions.

I mostly have icing problems, I keep freezing the end of my nose but if I cover it whatever I'm wearing over my eyes completely ices over. I'm trying different duct tap combinations over the vents on my goggles. Its totally not a problem down to about -15F but its a lot colder this week. I finally peeled another layer of dead skin off my nose so I guess I'll try it again tomorrow.

I just use wool face mask with no glasses or goggles. My breath seemed to keep my eyes warm,
although my vision was often obscured by ice and frost. I did ok even though the temps. were
in the high -50s Friday night.

I am force to take the lane when its snowing because I do not have tricition unless I ride in the little line reveal by the traffice tires running through the snow.
