Not trying to start a lowest temperature competition thread.

I would however, be interested in hearing what temperature the locals in your area typically give up and stop riding.

A recent thread on local message board here in Atlanta stated that 45° f at start time would cancel the ride. Its not my ride and people are free to do what they want but that does seem a bit... searching for the word... over-cautious.

Maybe e-riding has reduced cyclist tolerance?

Or am I being too judgmental?

I don't ride anymore below 40° and raining. When it has frozen the night before, I don't ride until the temperature reaches 40°. In the dry when it has not frozen the night before, I try not to ride below 35°. Those are my current personal restrictions. I am more conservative than many riders around here. I have done long group rides in heavy snow and in rain, both below the above temperatures, which can get tricky in a hurry. I've never fallen due to road conditions, for what that's worth.

Our club leaves it up to the individual ride leader(s). Posted rides tend to dry up when ride temps are below 40ish F, but some of us non-Zwifters ride no matter what the temp.

We began our annual New Years Day Century at 15 degrees a couple years back, but at least it was a dry cold......

I've ridden with the group and had my water bottles freeze up so definitely below 0C. Usually won't ride if there's much ice around.

I'm in NE Massachusetts, and the North Shore Cyclists don't cancel rides unless it's really brutal. Somewhere in the 20s. And these are road rides. I pack it in at 30F.

Spent time there many years ago. The morning forecasts became very boring to this Midwesterner, "sunny and clear on the mesas, fog will clear in Fashion Valley by 10:00 AM." .. and it did. 😎

Ours never cancels for weather. Turn out might be low, but someone always shows.

Our group doesn't have a temp cutoff but will cancel for icy roads. Here in the Nashville area we don't have too many days below 20 but folks get excited if they can have a ride in the teens. My personal cutoff is higher and seems to creep up each year.

The ride still happens even if nobody shows up. It just has zero participants in that case.

The groups I'm aware of here drop the TTh evening road rides when we fall back from daylight savings time. There is at least one MTB bunch that do evening rides by headlights. Personally, I'm able to ride days, so I'll ride down to about 40 if there is no or little wind.

It's never too cold here in AZ, but when it's 95 degrees at sunrise, not many B group riders show up.

I love the heat, and the hot summer rides, but our summer rides aren't for the weak.

The cycling club here in the Rocket City cancels at 40F but some people still show up and ride anyways.

I've pretty much given up on the group ride scene and will ride anywhere, anytime. Unless it's 40F and raining.

It doesn't get brutally cold here but the humidity will make it feel a lot colder.

I once got so bored being inside I suited up and rode around town. It started snowing but there was no wind so I just kept riding.

Snow anywhere in Alabama seems to freak people out. So far less traffic to worry about.

Our club doesn't cancel rides because of cold, but they might because of heat. However, that doesn't apply in Tasmania, so all rides are a "go".

With the group I ride with these days, rides haven't been cancelled on account of temperature alone, but we did have one curtailed - went out in the low 20's with a bit of wind, and some folks were struggling to keep up, so we turned around early. We didn't want to drop anyone, and we sure as heck didn't want to stand around waiting for anyone either.

^^ Good point about stops. We have an unofficial cold weather rule, no rest stops and ride together to minimize regrouping. Once you stop in the cold, it's tough to get going again. Not sure at what temp this "rule" goes into effect but probably under 40F and certainly under freezing.

I'll accept the title of wimpiest rider on BF.
- My temp limit for road riding is between 60 and 65 degrees. Below that, I switch to mountain biking.
- My temp limit for mountain biking is probably around 50F.
- I've ridden in the rain a bunch, but I usually won't head out in the rain. Getting caught in it once I'm already out is fine though.
- On the other end of the coin, I quite enjoy hot, humid days, and have been perfectly comfortable in a heat index over 100F.

Not sure why, but my legs like heat. All my Strava PRs are on 90+ degree days. Maybe it's because I'm old and my muscles need the heat to work right? Below 65F, I begin having dramatic declines in performance, and in the mid 50s, I frequently and randomly cramp up unless I have thermal, windstopper tights on.

Color me weird.

The organized bike shop ride is normally around 40 dependent on other weather conditions: sun, wind, moisture

Road riding in any kind of cold is torture, 60 degrees and I'm done. Mtn biking on the other hand with lower speed and wind chill I'll do into the teens.

Here in Mobile they start wearing jackets etc. when the temp is in the 60's which I think is a perfect temp for me. I usually don't start putting warm stuff on until it goes below 48ºF and stays there. I will ride down into the 20's if it gets there here. The other hardy riders will do the same. In other words the recreational cyclist will not ride.
