I cannot see my CTL going much higher than it has been the past few weeks. it is leveling off around 92 and will probably start to go down after States.
Taper after that for Fitchburg, then another planned peak for ESG.

Hard to depend on CTL and TSS unless you know what works best for you over years of racing. For me I can race good on 80 CTL if im only training 8-10 hours a week (for a season) or 110 CTL if im in the 14-16 hour a week range (for a season).

I'm somewhere in the 80 CTL range, 8-10 hrs/week when peaking.
Like kudude my CTL is pretty steady (though rising), while the ATL is all over the place.

I know it's not going to be a precise answer, but if a 1hr ITT has a TSS score of 100 and folks are running at a substantial fraction of that, it's useful for me at least as a bit of perspective on how hard they're working, especially when one factors in rest and recovery days.

I normally average 700-800 tss a week on 12-16 hours. But there's usually one or two 1 hour rides each week that look like this (bikescore is TSS, for all intents and purposes):
Thursday June 3, 2010, 6:00 PM
Device Type: Garmin TCX
Totals Duration: 50:32
Time Riding: 50:09
Distance (miles): 8.4
Work (kJ): 110
Elevation Gain (feet): 122
Averages Speed (mph): 10.1
Power (watts): 36
Heart Rate (bpm): 77
Cadence (rpm): 76
Metrics* xPower (watts): 44
Relative Intensity: 0.138
BikeScore™: 2

Does the Quarq not come with a basic program? Or could you sneak by with Saris's software (that's free right?)?

Working my way through Allen & Coggan's book - what kind of CTL are you guys carrying coming up to an A race (i.e., before you taper)? There's a part of the book where they're talking about 100-150 TSS / day (although one of the cases studies is much lower).

[Yea! geeky lingo and I don't even have my PM yet!]
It's been 9 days since the latest cycle ended and I am still feeling it. Starting to wonder if I over-cooked it a bit...hopefully the race this weekend will give me the answer that I can then use to make adjustments in the workload. Of course, having a coach would help but after buying the PM there's no money left.
Oh, am I'm a lowly Cat 4.

Quarq doesn't come with anything. Been using GC and WKO+ until the WKO trial ran out. I think I like it better, but I'll mess with GC some more before I decide whether or not to buy.

U spent $2k on your quarq set up, drop another $129 to use it properly.
I'm on ctl of 97 now. Steadily increased over the season. I haven't trained to target a specific ctl, it just kind of was the result of training. I have team designated races starting this weekend through mid august, so now I'm watching tsb and keeping it at -10 to 10 approx over that timeframe as that's where I find my fresh yet fit sweet spot.

Do you still need the Garmin cadence sensor to get cadence on an Edge 500 with the Quarq?

I did a practice crit tonight that was 83 minutes long. Would the NP for the ride be of any use in estimating where my FTP is? VI was 1.18, if that makes a difference.

Does an IF factor of .962 for a 64 mile race seem a bit high?

Typical IF values for various training sessions or races are as follows:
Less than 0.75 recovery rides
0.75-0.85 endurance-paced training rides
0.85-0.95 tempo rides, aerobic and anaerobic interval workouts (work and rest periods combined), longer (>2.5 h) road races
0.95-1.05 lactate threshold intervals (work period only), shorter (<2.5 h) road races, criteriums, circuit races, longer (e.g., 40 km) TTs
