Thought I would give an update if your interested.

I am out of the hospital after 16 days. I can’t put any weight on the broken leg, not sure how long this will last. Here is the good part, I crashed on my Waterford, but I was able to check it out when I got home, it appears to be in good condition, the frame looks straight, wheels turn. I thought that I might have bent the handlebars but they appear to be in good shape. Didn’t even tear the bar tape. My helmet didn’t take any impact. Shoes aren’t scuffed no damage to jersey or shorts. I just remember telling the ER doctor not to cut off my shorts. Remarkably I was able to take them off on my own. At least I have my priorities straight.I hope to be riding after August. See ya all on one of thes posts.

Thanks for updating us .
Keep us up to date .
Hope you have quick recovery.
Glad your bike made it ok .
Both of my falls this past year occurred while turning around and both on bikes with big tires . Go figure !

As most of you know , I’ve had knee pain issues and sometimes hip pain since early last fall .
A lightbulb lit up in my brain today about why I’ve been experiencing pain issues .
I blamed saddles , saddle height , and even bikes for my issues .
Late last summer I changed the cranks on several of my bikes . 175mm were what I could find , the old ones were all 170mm . I thought a mere 5mm couldn’t make much difference.
I got to searching around and reading articles and found that too long crank arms is worse on the knees than going too short .
I have a short inseam and am hard to bike fit anyways .
I’ve ordered some 170mm crank arms to see if it helps . I hope it does .

went through my riders , and I have three with 175mm cranks on them that will need to be changed out .

I’m pretty sure going from one size to another wasn’t helping matters .
I rode one of my bikes with 170mm crank arms today . It probably take awhile to get used to just one size .

Since my Specialized Roll has 170mm crank arms , I decided to accessorize it back to riding condition and give it another try .
Seemed to do ok . Since only riding my bikes with shorter crank arms my knees feel pretty good to just get off the bike .

No specific goal set. Well, complete the 5 stages of the Zwift Tour of Watopia... Which I did. and joined a HERD recovery group ride for an hour and 17.88 miles.

Activities for Apr 2021

  • 7h 25m
  • 5,213ft
I've had a serious lack of motivation this calendar year. I had started hopeful for an outdoor MTB ride with my son and grandkids on a road trip. But that didn't happen due to my wife and a health issue the day before I was supposed to go on the weekend away. That weekend has never been made up and that bike's forks are still apart for a change of seals and oil.

Nice MUP ride this morning. Took a spur off the path that was a Nature Trail that was a totally raised wooden trail that was probably around 1/2 mile or so winding through a swampy creek area . Neat riding on the boardwalk .
Picture at the end of the Nature Trail Boardwalk.

I have surpassed my expectations by at least double . It makes me happy to be able to ride again .
At one time I thought I was going to have to give up biking .

I’m still going to try and not over do it . Keeping my daily rides to five miles or even less , but with a 10+ miler once a week .
BTW , where is everybody ?

No rain today . The weather folks sure do mess up a lot . I think maybe they should get a new crystal ball. .
anyways , finished strong considering where my hopes were at the beginning of this year .
Hope I’m back on track .

I didn't make my goal yet again. Kinda burned out from probably riding a little too much last year. I'll try harder next month.

MTD: 458 miles

Short of my goal for the month, some rain days and my nemesis the extreme wind kept me at bay this month and hoping for a better month in May. Also hoping for my grandkids to be getting back to school so I can relieve myself of those responsibilities and should be able to make my goal next month.
