I've recently bought a Canyon Grand Canyon AL SL 8.0 bike.

Unfortunately, the bike arrived with some slight damage on the downtube and with a leaking front brake caliper. I asked Canyon for a replacement, and they told me they don't have frames available at the moment, but would have the at the end of summer.

They told me I can either:

a) Return the bike and get my money back.

b) Keep the bike, repair the caliper on the LBS (they will refund me the expense) and ride it as-is until they have frames available. They assured me the damage won't render the frame unsafe and they offer me to replace the frame for a new one when they finally have them in stock.

I really want to ride it and I'm thinking about keeping it as I can't find another bike that I like and is in stock at that price range. But I'm not sure if it's really a good idea instead of just getting the money back and buying another bike even if I have to wait... After all, a new bike shouldn't have any damage.

What do you think? Would you ride it? I have a full month to decide.

I would've already boxed it up, sent it back, and requested an undamaged bike.

I'm sure it was an anomaly, I've bought three bikes online without a problem.

That's not an option. They will have no Grand Canyons in stock until the end of summer. The only alternative they offer is returning the bike and getting the money back.

I've been looking for an alternative in other brands, but couldn't find anything in stock that I liked. Most bikes I like either have end of July delivery times, or cost 500€ more which I don't want to spend.

If the frame is functionally OK personally I'd probably ask for a very significant (like, at least 30%) discount and enjoy riding what's a pretty sweet bike. If you do decide to pursue a replacement frame when they become available, make sure you get their agreement to cover labor to swap frame sets as it's a lot of labor and would cost a significant amount.

Everything I've read is that supply lines are pretty screwed, so if you're stoked on the bike otherwise I'd probably err on the side of keeping it in my hands.

I've decided to keep it and exchage it later. They told me that they're going to cover all cost and I think I'm fine with that as it seems to me they have done all they could to allow me enjoy the bike. TBH, I was more worried about the frame being unsafe (it seems the underside of the dowtube, which is flat, was hit with something before painting), but they examined the pics and told me not to worry as there isn't any crack. It's not really visible in normal conditions as you need to flip the bike upside down and look closely at the light reflections.

Thanks for your opinion. You helped me make up my mind.

I't a mountain bike. Eventually YOU are going to put scratches in it. Ask for a credit for the damaged downtube and make sure they will pay for the leaking brake caliper.

Well, it's not a scratch. In fact the paint is perfect. It's more like a dent. That's what worried me.

They have already paid for the brake caliper and I have a working brake. No issues with that. So far they've been quick to offer solutions to the issue, and partly, this has made me decide to keep the bike.

I think you made the right choice if you you're out riding instead of wishing you were. Hope Canyon comes through with their side, if not. Bad mouth them here. No one likes bad publicity anytime

Hope so. Been having lots of fun with the bike this week. I'm loving the dropper so far.

A pic of the bike at the highest point of my first ride with it, and another one of the cockpit. I've put red ESIgrips on it now as I can't stand the discomfort of rubber grips.

The thing behind the bike is a weather radar BTW.

good looking bike, the red color with orange lettering is a nice look.
Get some orange or red decals on the fork to make it look even better
