9 speed shifter for Shimano SLX RD-M682?
I got this Performance Access XCL 9r 6 years ago as a gift, had the Salsa Woodchipper bars and Sora 3500 brifters, SLX RD and a SRAM X5 FD...
But time for change I think. The Woodchippers are great for a lot of riding, just not for narrow single-track where more leverage is better. Also, brifters were fine, but I always wanted more brake than the MTB Avid BB5 calipers offered with these brifters.
I'm going to follow the 1x fad as I swap from drop bars to flats. I will probably look at the Microsoft Advent or Advent X by Springtime. But 1x9 with what I have on the bike will be fine for now.
My son just picked up a Rocky Mountain Growler 20 with 1x9, and I had been thinking about this for my bike for a bit. Now I have good reason to swap. I'm getting "adventurous" enough to see where drop bars are ok most of the time, but not some of the trails we want to hit now.
I've spent too much money on the holidays, so any other upgrades will have to wait. Also contemplating hydraulic disc brakes...

There is a microshift shifter that will work, and the Shimano one should be fine with it too. (Apart from the title, I am not sure what your question is).
Coincidently, I was looking at this yesterday. My wife has a 3 X 9. The cassette was 12-32T. I think it is now 12-36T. She is frustrated with the front shifting, chain drops, etc. (Yes I have adjusted it.) So I was thinking of the Advent 11-42T with one ring in the front might be enough.

Any Shimano, or Shimano-compatible 9 speed shifter will work. Just not SRAM 1:1
@wgscott I put NX 11 speed on my wife's bike and she is pleased with no more front shifting but really misses her EZ-fire shifter. I'm considering swapping it for the SLX 11-speed set I have on the tandem, or trying an XT shifter. The conversion was more expensive than I expected because she had one of the cranksets with riveted rings.

And a friend is dropping by this weekend to tempt me with a hydraulic brake setup, that I could probably afford...

I was hoping the Advent shifter would work with the SLX, as I will probably move to the Advent system later. I'm limited with the RD at 36t, which I'm running a 12-36 cassette currently. I spend MOST of my time on the middle ring, a 34t, presently, so perhaps a 30t narrow/wide chainring will be the choice later as well.
Also, the derailleur on my wife's bike (9 speed XT) has the capacity for a triple, so a 1X with a big cassette might be perfectly fine. I've ordered the cassette for $35 and I am going to put that on with the existing XT derailleur and shifter, and will see if it works.
Edit: It did not. So I got the Microshift Advent shifter and 9-speed derailleur. They are solid and comparatively inexpensive.
Shipping is slow, so you might not want to wait for the results of my experiment, but that is my plan. If she can live with one ring on the front, then problem is solved. (On her crankset, you can replace the big ring with a bash guard and just remove the little one and the front derailleur.)

I just bought the new Rene Herse 26" treaded tires.

For cost and expediency, I went with a Microshift 3x9 set, I had some older Deore XT brake levers and sourced a Bontrager 750mm bar set from my local collective. I will get the swap done soon.

Just thought I'd update. The Microshift shifter works well with the SLX RD... I will likely look for a 34t narrow Wide chainring, as the existing 34t seems good for the riding I do. I do think I need a longer stem with a touch more rise but am pleased so far. And some hydraulic brakes are certainly in order. But thinking a newer full suspension bike might be needed sooner than later.

After some more thought, and riding... The 1x9 conversion is done, on the cheap. New 32t chainring, New 11-42t cassette. Surprisingly, the RD covers, but barely. New chain, plus a few old links. I'm not impressed with the Microshift brand shifter. hill. Slow, or maybe I just a bit more tweaking. Or stop buying cheap stuff...
Tonight's 7 mile ride was 1/3 soft sand and dirt covering odd shaped rocks.. The rest was streets, and all uphill. Downside to living on the top of the hill.
1x will take a little getting used to.. but if I need speed, I have roadbikes...
