Hello from rural Pa.
Lots to say where do I start
ex runner ran a 2:50 marathon and use to race at 6 minutes a miles
speed never transferred over into cycling
started into cycling in 1992 after an injury and botched surgery.
1st ride ever was on a Trek 540 heavier than a rock touring bike and I rode the Hanover Cyclists Hanover Century ride. I was stiff for 2 to 3 days after that. I became lost 2 miles from the finish line and have been lost on the bike ever since. You don't want me to be the navigator on a non supported following a cue sheet ride.
I am somewhat of a natural athlete but didn't get the genetic freak stuff
Rides I have finished
Raam 2006(Team Cyclonauts) 4 man relay
Furnace Creek 508 2 man relay now Western States 508
Cascades 1200k
Rocky Mountain 1200k my 1st
hardest day rides
The Highlander Tour in the Finger Lakes
Assault on Mt. Mitchell
Nightmare Tour of Lancaster County 178 mile ride when I did it along with about 17,000 ft. of climbing 8 time finisher
Cochise County Cycling Classic 252 mile day ride in the desert.
along the way
Bicycle Tour of Colorado
Ride the Rockies
Pedal the Peaks
3 time climbing Mt. Evans
Bike Virginia
Plan on climbing Pikes Peak July 25th this year with some friends.
on you tube Zman on top of the world
Hypothermia at Triple Bypass in 1998 I believe during a sleet/hail/rain storm/ I finished
deer kill Specialized Allez in 1998 no injuries
Trek 540 parked after the last 50 mph high speed wobble coming off the back side of my local mt.
Lemond Zurich bought to replace the Allez has something like 20,000 miles on it right now
Lemond Victoirre bought to do the RAAM ride around 20,000 right now only road bike I use.
I love my Lemonds and wish they were still made. We all know how Lemond getting on Lance for taking drugs and then Lance having so much power that he forced Trek to drop the Lemond brand turned out.
I am all excited about now getting into gravel riding/racing after buying my Raleigh Tamland 1 today.
Let the good times roll.
I spent the last 2 days reading all the info on the gravel grinding bikes and threads that I could. I am kind of maxed out with the purchase of this bike. I hope to get good advice from the gravel grinders as I have kind of learned from the school of hard knocks on the road end and hope not to have to do the same from the gravel grinding end.

Eric we all have been given something. I am very lucky in that I was given that natural athletic ability and was passed on to my 2 boys. There is always a discussion comparing cycling to running. At my end I pretty much have to do a 150 mile + bike ride in to get the same feeling in that I did when I was marathon racing. I guess that is why I love the long distance cycling.
BTW Any thing you do on the bike is all good.
