Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I changed a few things. New bar tape (supacaz two tone), Stem (110mm Giant SLR), bars (Zipp Service Course SL 88).

Crashed it Monday... You would expect it to be on a race but it was only a patch of oil in a wet parking lot.

I'm also oddly attracted to the junky background - the old trunk, braided rug and terra cotta pots are all so homey, reminds me of rummaging around grandparents garage....

If it weren't for that geometry, it would be really hot...
Sorry about the crash

Yeah, I would have cleaned up a bit more if I knew I was going to be posting the picture when I took it. That's our mudroom/utility room/bike storage and workshop/landing spot for crap that we don't yet have a home for. It's a great room and it keeps the rest of the house tidy, but it often looks like that as stuff goes in and out.

That trunk is actually a family heirloom. It is the trunk that my wife's grandmother and family used to come over from Austria in 1918. All of the possessions of the entire family were in that one trunk!

The dome top trunk is hot! A family heirloom like that deserves better than to sit in a mud room. That thing is awesome.

A friend of mine has his great grandparent's trunk, the one they used on the ship from Italy, in his living room under a portrait of them.

I've been slowly refinishing one, work on it now and then when I'm bored. No story. It was my father's. I think he got it at a garage sale.

Yeah, the trunk only landed in the mudroom for a little while before we had a place ready for it. It is now in a place of honor in our bedroom. It's pretty smelly inside (understandable after a century of life), so we're thinking of lining it with cedar and using it to store linens and such.

Having just spent a little more, I think I'll have another go at this one. Here's my first post, about five months ago, for the sake of comparison.

And here's the same bike today. Please forgive the crappy lighting; the sum was in the wrong location, and I only have one good fence to shoot against. (Same goes for the rogue wood sorrel.)

Anyway, since my first trip through, I've replaced the factory Prologo saddle with an Arione CX, which I think I'll keep. I've also swapped the matte black, 90mm/-6° FSA stem with a much more colorway-appropriate 110mm/-17° Zipp Service Course SL stem, and traded the satin-on-matte cages for glossy B&W. Stem was also dropped 2cm, now resting on the dust cover.

Still painfully aware of the wonky right shifter (new bars are next up; will fix that then, I suppose), and the Rule 45 escape chute of spacers, but that's only temporary. Just long enough to make sure I can still ride the thing, before I have the stem cut down. And of course, the factory RS10 wheels. Not sure what to do about those just yet. Because nice carbon rims are more than I paid for the whole bike to begin with!

If the goal is to show off the bike, that's an atrocious photo. You've got a predominantly black bike with a predominantly black background so that most of what you can see are specular highlights. What can be seen looks hot, but deserves a better pic.

I have so many photos of the frame now I'm experimenting haha. I've gradually changed this bike over the years. But yeah it's a stylized photo and doesn't show much detail.

Here's one with 3t post.

Sorry. Plain black bikes are not "hot." some may be very fancy, and show up nicely in a photo if you try hard enough, but IRL,and in 99% of photos they are just plain. Most of the time the reaction is just to the labels. Sure, they may be excellent specimens, but hot just doesn't seem to be the right word.

OK, how about more light, older Red chainring, and a pop of red color?

Not my bike, it's from the thread below. One of the most beautiful bikes I've ever seen, including the tires.

Not, but only because I don't care for red/black bikes and I think the tires don't really fit here (and I love gumwalls). In a different color scheme (ANY different color scheme) it would be hot for me.

That bike has potential to be extremely hot. I had a friend build that frame with Campy Chorus 11, Roval CL60s and special edition Chicane saddle / Cork Tape and it looked incredible.. Gumwalls. I feel like the DA9100 won't compliment the gold on the frame. The Campy carbon stuff would look incredible with the BORA Ultras.
