10 speed crank with 11 speed chain/derailleur?
I have a 10 speed D/A 7900 drive train. Would like 11 speeds on the rear with an 11-32 cassette. Can I run, say 11 speed Ultegra 6800 shifters, rear derailleur/chain/cassette with my 10 speed D/A 7900 crankset and front derailleur? Much cheaper option. Wheels will take 11 speed cassette.

I've got one bike with 11-speed chainrings, but a 10-speed setup otherwise. Works fine.
You essentially want to do the opposite. Unless there's some incompatibility with the specific components you have, you should be OK.

Works fine, you may even be able to use a 10spd chain. Some 10spd chains seem to work ok, others may have trouble
with the single tooth areas on the cassette. This will be obvious if it happens as the chain is picked up by the next larger
cog in the single tooth jump areas on the cassette. Larger jumps don't matter. Not likely to occur IME.

thanks for the responses. I guess what I really only want to do is change out the chain, cassette and rear derailleur to the 11 speed parts and keep the rest. Would that work?
