Anyone else have an 84 Focus RT-550? Seems to be pretty rare
Picked this frame set up really cheap ($40) and am going single speed with it. Doing internet searches it seems that its a pretty rare bike and not that many were made. This Focus company is not the same as the current Focus bikes. In 84 it was Japanese. All Tange 2 double butted cro-mo tubing. Post pics if you have one.

That's a tall boy! Tange 2? What are the dropouts? Could we see pictures of the seat cluster and head lugs? Looks like a very finely constructed machine. Pretty too.

They seemed to be well distributed in Toronto in the late 80's early 90's - mtn, hybrid and road models. Never rode one but they looked like nice bikes.
I love the look of those Tange Levin 500 head sets. High end JIS?
Looks like a late 80's bike...why 84?

I say 84 because someone else posted pics of one with the identical paint job and said it was an 84. It was a stab in the dark. Im sorry. now that I look at it again its 85. My bad

That's a really nice frame for $40. The joining at the rear dropouts is very, very good for that tubeset. Normally, these are finished a bit poorly on Japanese bikes. Also, your seat stay caps are unusual.
If you want to colormatch that paint to cover the nicks, find a good drugstore or nail polish shop. The metallic purple should be relatively easy to find.
That's my size, too, so if you find another, let me know.

The link that I posted above is the only other that I have seen, but its pretty small. The paint is more on the oxidized copper brown side than the purple side. I wish I could find some original decals for it

Given that you've got that site from facebook, you can make the decals yourself. MKeller and RHM have done this, but I never have.
There are two options. The first is to buy a few sheets of water transfer paper. Use a graphics program to take the decals from the bike on Facebook and modify them digitally. Print them out on the special paper, and then transfer them.
The other option is to make the graphics and print them on regular paper. Put clear tape over the decals. Rub out all air bubbles on the tape. Take water to the paper and saturate it. Rub the paper off the tape, and the graphics will be left on the tape. Apply the tape to the frame.
Again, I've not done either one. Pm rhm or mkeller for more details.

Here we go, all done on the build. A little bit of new, a little bit of old. This is going to be my daily commuter.

1980s Focus RT-550 Japanese NOS
I just picked up this NOS Focus RT-550 12 speed (metallic pink with white trim) never ridden from an old bike shop. It still had the brown protective paper on some of the tubing. Tange 2 tubing, Suntour Cyclone front and rear dertaileurs and brakes, Sakae SA crank. I wanted to post photos of it on here but bikeforums won't allow me until I've made (10) posts.
