Once, I got a pinch flat not long after riding through this park, and still had goose crap all over my tire.
Geese. And it was a purely recreational ride, with a camera no less, so maybe it should be "The Fred that rides with geese?"

I was mad because ... well ... if you ever want to have a really crazy experience ... borrow a friend's dog, and walk it in a park with geese. Pick up it's poop in a little plastic bag, because the law (and social rules) says you have to. Then, look at all the goose **** all around you.

The canadian geese are such a nuisance around here. One man recently was pushed into a pond by one and drowned. That's not to say that their young aren't cute of course.
I worked at a country club for a few years, and the "geese police" were out there weekly with dogs and canoes. When they were attacking golfers, my crazy boss would go out on the course with his old 20 gauge at night. One night he came back with a couple he had shot, holding them by the neck, and said something like, "my fiance is going to love these." I'm still not sure if he was kidding or not, but I would not be surprised if he ate them.

How did you get so close without the mother attacking you? Or do you have a really good zoom that you use?

I saw a Canada goose chase a pretty big dog in this park once, to keep it away from the goslings. I've heard of people who have guard geese instead of guard dogs, because geese can be meaner, and can't be bribed with food.

That must take some stones. I hate getting close to geese, let alone geese that are protecting their babies. Just make sure to not get bit, it will hurt a lot.

Or, you could do it Pittsburgh style, round up the geese, gas them, then feed them to the homeless!

You haven't lived until you have dined on 30 day old aged gassed goose!

IIRC, the guy was employed as a "goose chaser", was in a boat w/boots and heavy clothing on, and had dogs w/him to assist w/goose chasing.
The geese attacked him and he, unfortunately, fell out of boat. He left behind a wife and kids.

Ahh, I actually just re-read the article. He was part of a company that got rid of geese, but in this case it was a swan that attacked him. He was just checking up on them. And yes he was wearing full waders and whatnot and was in a canoe that flipped. So unfortunate, especially when there's kids involved.

Oh I believe you. The guy was actually in a kayak too, I misspoke. I have had similar experiences, but not in a kayak. On more than one occasion I've had them steal bread I was using as fish bait. The same thing once happened with shrimp and a pelican in florida. Hitchcock really had something....
