What shoes do you wear to the shower while camping on tour?

Crocs or flip-flops, depending on what I have with me. Something that is light and dries quickly (ie, doesn't have any fabric in or on them) is preferable.

Fake crocs...incredibly light, dry quickly and they can be used as off-bike shoes (not very glamorous, but they do the job).

I've been debating about this for our upcoming tour. I've got fairly cheap sandals which I'm planning to bring with me, and would work to walk to the shower. But I have been debating about looking for a dollar store pair of light, small flip-flops.

Cheap and no brand. However, it is not as easy as it might seem. I have browsed the cheap stores in Australia and Canada, and for some reason the flip-flops that I prefer often come in a heavier weight closed-cell foam, or have some incredible gaudy branding on them. I've had to settle for the ones with one fabric band across the top of the foot as the lightest I've seen. YMMV.

One thing that we are considering is taking a small bottle of ammonia that can be squirted across the shower floor and washed away. It's intended to go some way to killing off the fungi that inhabit the shower floors. And carrying a small tube of fungal treatment might be a good idea. I would suggest that if you have open sores on your feet, covering them might be advisable.

I have never worn shoes of any sort in a shower. It is something I have never even thought about.

In college dorms I just used flip flops, but if you van get over the goofy looks water shoes are pretty great and versatile. I'm guessing body glove is probably the best manufacturer of those

I think I paid $0.99 last summer at Walgreens on a 50 percent off sale.

The cheap ones can be a bit slippery. I wear expensive ones to the gym that weigh three times as much as the cheap ones and are much more grippy, but I take the cheap ones when weight and potential loss is an issue. The cheap ones I got are 215 grams.

Fungus, such as athlete's foot, is the main culprit. But there are other things that can cause issues. I've gone into showers where people have crapped on the floor, and spitting is a pretty common practice for many people as they clear the sinuses and throats. And a few other "personal" activities might add the pile of nasties waiting to invade you.

My socks. After I change into camp clothes and shoes, I rinse them off in the sink, wring them out and hope they're dry by morning.

No shower shoes. I take shower and wipe my feet and wear cycling shoes after.

I wear sandal cycling shoes for riding, and carry fake crocs. They weigh nothing and have proven super versatile. I got onto them before they were popular, MEC sold them, and still wear them now that they are over. They just work.

I wear water-resistant sandals to the showers and then take them off, to keep them as dry as posible. This will not cause athlete's foot if you make sure that your feet don't remain damp. Wearing open shoes helps a lot. I've only had the affliction at home once, never from a dirty shower on a campingsite. I don't think some of the practices mentioned in this thread are a good idea, like putting on wet socks. Give your feet fresh air after a long day cycling.

On trips where I have my Crocs I use them. Otherwise I go barefoot.

Cheap rubber sandals. I prefer the kind that have a strap at the heel as they're easier to walk around camp in.

For those of you who go barefoot in pubic showers, I advise caution. I picked up a case of athlete's foot when I was a kid and I've never really been able to get rid of it completely, despite using all sorts of ointments and powders. It goes away, but if I'm not ultra careful about my feet, if I wear closed shoes too much in summer, for example, it comes right back.

As the kind of guy who ALWAYS makes an a55 gasket on toilets, makes sure my clothes don't touch the floor, uses a paper towel to open bathroom doors when leaving, and is a big fan of bleach, shower shoes are a real issue.
I would like to take rubber boots for full ankle/calf protection, but usualy make do with sandals, as on most longer tours thats what I am wearing all day. If its a tour that I am using cleats, then I will probably take sandals for off the bike wear, and thats what I use(usualy Chacos). I always check that the drain works, as water shipping up over your soles horrifies me. If the shower is as bad a Rowan described, and sometimes they are worse, its a sponge bath for me.
Its actualy not so much that I am a germaphobe, as I just think that people are on the whole pretty nasty.

Carriers here as well.
We use our sandals (Teva's) to walk TO the showers, but once inside we want to scrub our feet as well.

Like many others, I go barefoot in the shower. I am careful to dry my feet thoroughly to avoid athletes foot. The fungus doesn't do well without moisture.

You might think about it if you ever have to shower in a place like the city park in Grand Rapids, MN in the condition it was in when we stayed there. The walls and floors were literally black with mold. God knows what else was growing in there.

Like Doug64, I lash a cheap pair of flip flops on the outside.
