Well, I was a bit alarmed by the traffic ... enough that we didn't even get the bicycles out of their boxes during the 3.5 days we were there.

If we go to Hong Kong again (and we are talking about it ... it's not too far from Australia and there are apparently some relatively inexpensive flights), we might consider taking folding bikes or renting bikes to get a ride or two in. I have heard that some areas are not as bad as others, but I doubt I'd want to do anything like a long ride.

So far I am limited to Central Illinois. I would love to ride somewhere else with more scenery. I'm tired of seeing cornfields.

If all goes well, I may be able to add a few more US states to the list soon.

Where have your summer travels taken you?

Have you ridden Martha's Vineyard Mass. already? It's busy in the nice weather. Not so busy in the fall.

There are a few nice off road paved bike routes on Cape Cod.

I've ridden a little bit around the Boston area, but that's all in Mass.

That's not too bad, but it's the worst riding conditions in the area. Better roads as you ride away from Boston. I'm 52 miles straight south of Boston. Nothing spectacular ,but, it is a coastal plain and the hills are not big near the water. I've ridden to Boston a few times, most of it was bike friendly.

We rode the beginning and the end of the Boston-Montreal-Boston in 2006 ... so we started in a town/suburb just west of Boston and cycled generally westward for a while before heading north toward Canada. I'd have to look up the route to see exactly where we went.

So far:
Arizona (year round commuter there).
Kansas (commuting sucked most of the year, and I wasn't brave enough to try for about 4 months/year in the winters)
Washington State (so far, year round, but this is my first year trying it. Hope we don't get snow.)
Colorado (mountain biking only)

Okinawa, Japan (early 80s, lived there 3 years, and got around mostly on base, but did ride off base on occasion. Always fun riding on the left side of the road.)

Hamburg Germany (1 year, commuted most days in the summer)

I'm slowly working through the US States. My list so far:

Alaska
California
Florida
Illinois
Indiana
Iowa
Kentucky
Michigan
Minnesota
New Jersey
New York
North Carolina
Ohio
Oregon
Pennsylvania
Tennessee
Virginia
Wisconsin

I'll probably never get Hawaii; not as long as my wife has horses. If I get 49 total, I'll call it a success.

Just realized that when I rode in Kentucky a couple of weeks ago, that was my first time on in bike in that state.
(Will have to doublecheck my previous post/posts (?) in this thread)

Last rode in most of those states a long time ago.
Geez......don't remember any previous rides in Kentucky.
And, yes, I did and do know that Ontario is not a state. It's a principality, or something.

Added Idaho a little over a week ago ... and added Oklahoma today. That brings me to 25 US states now.

Today, Rowan and I rode a little bit of Route 66.

Other than living in MN/MI I've done most of my riding in Taiwan and I'm gearing up for Hokkaido next summer. Machka and Rowan got a little taste of Taiwan (I've read the blog) but it is an underrated country and has some great outdoor spots once you get out of the awful cities. The cycling is pretty good also except for a couple of places that you absolutely should not ride a bicycle like the narrow, long and busy tunnels between Suao and Yilan.
