Bike computer not working........
Hi, I installed a new bike wired computer on my bike and its turned on but nothing is being registered.
The magnet is as close as possible to the receiver since the front of the receiver is towards the spokes. Also the position seems to be correct according to me.
Not sure what else to do, just bought it. Could be possible its defected or am I doing something wrong? Please enlighten me if you have an ideas about this issue please. Bike computer is cytec i9 wired, nothing fancy.
Thank all

Hey thanks, I really dont see what else I can do. maybe its the way the sensor is placed or the receiver.
On the manual you sent me and also in mine, they both say ' The sensor should be mounted on the same side of the fork as the holder is on the handle bar'
What does this mean if your computer is positioned in the middle of the handle bar? which side does the receiver and the magnet go?

Doesn't matter.
Take the magnet off the spoke and rub it across the pick up sensor to see it if it works by hand.

Hey So i tried rubbing the magnet over the sensor and it picked it up. But for some reason its not picking it up when the magnet is attached to the spoke. I cant see how I can make it close to each other. The sensor is facing the spokes so thats the closest they can be. does it make a different if the sensor and magnet are higher or lower on the spoke (would that make them closer to each other)?

basically the issue i have now is that I removed the magnet and rubbed it against the sensor to see if it even picks up. Because when I have the magnet on the spoke (the magnet is aligned with the sensor) it doesnt pick up.
I dont see how I can make the magnet and the sensor any closer.

Huh? Even my Garmin GPS uses a wheel sensor for better accuracy.

TripleAce:
So is the gap 1-5 mm, which is 3/16 inch or less? Some bike computer sensors have a line or a mark to align with the magnet. If not, just center the magnet over the sensor.
If you can't get it that close, you can move the sensor and magnet up toward the rim or down near the hub, wherever the spokes are closer to the bike's fork. Or use a shim under the sensor as a last resort.

Well I didnt measure the gap, my sensor does have a line on it. I always place pieces aligned with that mark. I just tried moving the sensor closer to the hub and closer to the rim and nothing. The magnet is just not picking up at that distance. I dont get why...any other suggestions? whats a shim?

thanks for the pictures, you see your sensor is much wider so it sticks out more, mine doesnt stick out that much so its not close enough i guess. Ill try attaching a picture too. hang on

You might use electrcal tape around the fork to make it wider.

I pasted a photo, its not the best but just to give you an idea. Well electric tape sure, but if thats the only way to fix Cytec's weak magnet issue thats stupid for something I paid for and it should work the way they say it should.
maybe its my spokes and fork? are the simply to far apart for ANY magnet and sensor? lol

From the photo it looks like it's mounted way close to the rim. If you look at where my Strada sensor is on the fork, you can see that it's almost to the hub, where the spokes and fork are closer together. Is the wire long enough to let you do that?

It looks like it's up close to the rim. The gap between the fork and the spokes should be narrower closer to the hub. I had mine about halfway down the fork.
Also, your magnet should be aligned with the middle of the sensor, not the bottom of it. (Maybe it's just the angle of the photo that makes it look that way.)

My computers say to have the magnet cross at the top or bottom of the sensor Not the Center.

hey, yea I tired it also close as I can to the hub and still it didnt pick it up. Ill give it another shot because I also thought the two pieces would be closer if mounted towards the hub. Yea its long enough ill give it a shot but I doubt it will work.

I did put it closer to the hub, it seemed like it was almost close enough. So I guess for now I put some rolled up tape in-between the fork and the sensor and its picking up now. Just going to try and make it more of a clean job.
Im wondering if all sensors are the same, or if maybe I get a better computer will the magnet be stronger? If so Ill just buy a better one....

Since your computer is a wired computer, this probably doesn't apply. I just wanted to mention that when I bought a cadence sensor for my wireless computer, the cadence sensor sending unit came with a dead battery. Once I replaced the battery, I was able to pick up the signal from the sensor. Is your computer display showing other functions, just not input from that sensor?

If you put the sensor down lower on the fork so it's closer to the magnet and it still has problems, you can stick another strong little rare earth magnet to the spoke magnet so that it's closer to the sensor. Another plus is that the rare earth magnet is particularly strong. You can buy them at the hardware store or hobby store.
