Discounts on Cycling Shorts?

Hi, I was hoping someone could point me towards a Discount website where I could find quality 8-panel cycling shorts/bib at a big discount.

Thanks!

Define "big discount". Someone will see Assos on sale @ 10% off as big discount while another will see $30.00 Amazon shorts as a bargain.

Thanks. Something like the discounts at the clearance page of ChainReactionCycles .com's website; 30-70% name brands stuff.

(I would have hyper-linked this, but the forum will not allow me until I have 10 posts)

I've had good luck buying shorts from foreign sellers on eBay. I personally can't justify $100+ for a single pair of flimsy shorts, that's just highway robbery (I used to work in retail and I know what companies pay for items). I also prefer 8-panel shorts and burn through several pairs in a week since I won't re-wear a pair w/o washing them first (gross!)

The only issue with ordering from foreign eBay sellers is that you better not be in a hurry to get your order because the order will likely get stuck in customs for an undetermined amount of time. Expect to wait a month before getting your package. In the one case where it seemed like I wasn't going to get my order, the eBay seller sent another jersey/short package that did arrive. Your eBay and PayPal buyer protection will protect you if you never get your item.

If you go this route, try to avoid knock-off jersey's and shorts (I.e., knock-off cycling team jerseys and shorts) and go for generic stuff so you're not stealing company's trademarked property.

https://www.voler.com/ sells nice shorts with Elastic Interface Technology pads for $120 and bibs for $140 which is a great deal compared to other brands.

You can return them if they don't work for you.

If you're looking for good quality affordable shorts, take a look at The Black Bibs. https://www.theblackbibs.com/ I'm very happy with the bibs and jerseys that I have bought from them.

Ordered a pair of The Black Bibs Ultimate with the DR Pad. Not cheap but not expensive either at $80. Will see if this will work for century rides w/ a lot of climbing.

Przewalski and Spotti bibs and shorts (same manufacturer, different branding and styles) are outstanding values. Check Amazon.

Black Bibs are excellent values but I prefer the Spotti bibs a little -- somewhat better pad and stretchier suspenders, which helps on pee stops. Black Bibs have no rubber/silicone grippers on the thigh hem, which some folks prefer if the gripper chafes their skin.

I'll add a second vote for Przewalski shorts. I own several pairs of them and they are as good as shorts that I paid 3x as much for. Mine have the 3d pad, so I can't speak for their newer 4d pad.

I guess the nearest neighbor might be steep and cheap (sister company to competitive cyclist/backcountry)

Has anyone tried the "Sponeed Men's Cycling Shorts" from amazon? They are listed as #1 seller? 4.5 rating, 2700+ reviewers ... could this just be inflated reviews?

I tried out a pair of Sportneer mens 4d padded shorts, 18.98 US, and they are fine. I like them better than my 3 times the price Garneau shorts. Also I tried that knockoff site, Wish, and bought a Giant team bib short and jersey set for 25 bucks. My first bib shorts, wanted to try them before I moved up in quality and price. Sorry to say they also are fine ha ha. Spent 5 hours wearing the Sportneers and they kept me dry and comfy. The Giant knockoffs I have only worn for a number of short rides this past month, I am wondering how they will work once the temperatures climb. That Wish site is awful.

Edit, I'm 5'10 and 190 to 195 pounds, most of it in my 36 inch waist. Sportneer XL fits fine, knockoffs are XXL and a teeny bit big but good enough.

The 4D pad is the same thickness as the 3D, but only in the pressure zones -- sit bones. It's thinner elsewhere. I kinda prefer the 3D pad for indoor trainer sessions, where I sit more heavily, or rural rides on chipseal and rough pavement. But the 4D pad is good too. It's what Spotti puts in their bibs (which are labeled Przewalski inside). Folks who dislike the diaper-thick pads would probably prefer the 4D.

I didn't appreciate how much I prefer the DuPont CoolMaxpads used by Przewalski/Spotti until a couple of weeks ago when I wore my Black Bibs for a few rides. I developed a boil in the groin, not quite directly on the pressure zone, from an ingrown hair. A little uncomfortable for a few rides, but switching back to the Przewalski/Spotti pads helped. The Black Bibs pad isn't bad, but it was a bad match with the saddle I have on one road bike -- a good, flexible Bontrager Ajna saddle with generous cutout for perineum relief. It just happened to be a bad match for the Black Bibs shorts, which have been comfortable with my other saddles.

I have used Voler in the past, and they seem fine for the price. Having said that, I use DeSoto now. Not necessarily discount, very comfy.

I bought a pair of Sponeed and a pair of Santic last month from Amazon. After trying both on 2 different rides - I bought more of the cheaper Santic (felt more substantial to me).

Time will tell as far as durability.
