This one got stolen a few years ago. Not sure what frame it was, I think an Aggressor that some dillhole had mutilated to try to sell as a Zaskar that I just stripped the rest of the way. Fun, fast bike; weighed in at about 24 pounds which wasn't bad in my sizes.

Doesn't look like an Aggressor, those were usually steel. I'm thinking Pantera or Avalanche

Zaskar Refurbish

I let a friend I work with know that I enjoy fixing up vintage bikes and showed him pictures of a couple. He told me he had an old Zaskar wasting away in his back yard and I could have it if I wanted. Yes!!! A very sweet ride indeed.
I put different handlebars, pedals, bottom bracket, RD and seatpost, bought a new saddle, RD hanger, chain and decals totaling about $150CAD, Love the Bomber fork:

Paleo. i cant quote or tag you cause im a brand new user so i hope you see this reply..
I was wondering how tall you are? and how much like a bmx sitting/riding style it is for you. the frame looks like about 18" is that right?
man i have a ton of questions lol. do you have any riding or sitting pix?
do you have a build thread or anything? id love to know your tyre selection and are the bars actual bmx bars? infact any parts you used would be sweet to know.
I have my mid 90s backwoods bought and some bars on order. i doubt ill ever find a sweet oldschool GT bmx stem but ill find something cool.
Im hoping to do my build on the cheap. my frame is that cool 90 gt titanium paint colour so i think im gonna keep it that colour.
sorry for so many questions. i havnt been into mtb for a good 20 years so am not knowledgeable on mtbs, mtb parts etc since the mid 90s.
if you want PM me man. i would pm you but this forum has so many restrictive rules lol

^^Progress report: seat post is definitely stuck. Paint is in beautiful condition. Decals 99% complete. Parts are usable but uninspiring. Need to find a set of 170 crank arms to replace the 175 on there now.

pics when I get home from jumpin’.

No, sir. Early 90's Zaskar, OK! In fact, I am really happy I got my Tempest. 7005 Aluminum is actually stiffer than the 6061 of the Zaskars. The 6061 was only preferred because it was easier to weld. I don't know why the world hasn't figured that out yet.

Palomar first, then a month later Ricochet

Hey guys, new to mtb’ing and from South East Asia (think Singapore and you’re close) so labour is cheap here, and bike prices can be all over the place..

Anyway I bought a GT Palomar, it was sitting in a friend’s air conditioned office most of its life, not in some hot humid warehouse. So I’ve been using it as is atm, it comes with Shimano SiS 3x7 and I have ordered a 34T 7 Spd freewheel and an acera RD along with chain just to give me more climbing range. Keeping the triple anvil crankset for now heh heh although now im not so sure if i should tinker with it or keep it original...

But..this is where the story gets interesting. One of the riders I ride with usually rides a 29er Fuji and I just found out he has a GT Ricochet, so I bought it. Turns out it used to be a amateur racer’s bike. Still trying to dig up the story behind the bike..

Its got a Deore LX 8 speed groupset, with rear Deore LX hub, front Deore XT hub, shimano wave brakes, Mavic F519 rims and Sun Tour SR front sus. Best part is the Ricochet is a 7000 series treated aluminium frame, so its pretty light.

From what I learnt On my rides so far, the Palomar is cro-mo steel (ahh no wonder its so comfy on gravel) and the Ricochet is aluminium, stiff and fast responding. So much so that I skid turned into a tree on a trail cause the bike turned in too fast..

From the Ricochet

^^^^ Cool; I wonder if either/both of those bikes got there via the US or "points west", or came right from Taiwan.

We have an active member who lives currently in Kampong Cham Cambodia. He posts frequently in C&V.

GT marketing would have you believe that they invented this frame design in the early 80s.
Hetchins of England was offering what they called "Hellenic" seatstay attachment on all their models
in the 1930s. French touring and camping bikes like Charrel were using this design in the 1920s!

Finished up the 1988 Karakoram, Returned the GT Stem back to the bike and proper Deore front Cantilevers. Even added a set of Deore pedals.

If you want to take it one step closer to OEM spec, remove the crossover cable guide for the rear U-brake. That was a 1989 feature that many 1988 owners added, including myself.

Edit: Addition of the All-Terra top decal decal made a big difference too.

Should I get this Zaskar Race frame for $100?

So I had a few people offer me a couple of GT’s. in fact I got a GT Aggressor 3.0 All Terra for my dad’s friend. Anyway here’s a Zaskar Race frame that I’m contemplating on buying but he’s asking for a chunk of change (groupset not included).

I’m still contemplating cause to build it up will cost me similar or more than a used Specialized Rockhopper 27.5.
What do you guys think?
