No idea, looks like the one letter could be backwards lower case "a" too but still no help.

Gonna show us the rest of it?

Despite lots of info here, you know we wanna see it all.

It’s a mountain bike triple or a triple that came off an old mountain bike? Weren’t lots of components used on early MTBs touring parts?

did you take it off a bike? What bike?

the S marking on the one arm may indicate "sinistra" for left which, if correct, would tend to eliminate the francophone, the anglophone & the hispanophone worlds for national origin

leaving Italy as one possible origin...

But the “S” is stamped on the back of the drive side crank (i.e., the right hand crank)! If it were meant to indicate “Sinistra”, it is on the wrong side- unless it is a tandem cross over drive, then the pedal threading would be reversed.

CPI, from Taiwan or China. This brand turns up on lots of mass-market bikes such as from Costco and perhaps lower-end LBS bikes.

Bam! There it is, thanks!
Some quick googling shows in the mid 90s CPI cranks came on a lot of mid-grade mountain bikes, which makes sense because this crank is eerily similar to a Shimano STX crank.
