Biking gloves - suggestions?
Never really gave any thought to biking gloves with my 29'er, but my hands get much more sore on my road bike. What gloves are you guys and gals wearing?

For summer, I pretty much stick with the Giro Bravo Gel glove. I have about 5, maybe 6 pair in different colors and of different vintage, but they seem to work for me. I actually prefer them when they are broken in a bit, but even my 7 or 8 year old pair are still functional. Just enough padding in the right places for me. The large seems to fit my hands just right. After wearing a few times, I wash them out in the sink with some mild detergent and hang them outside in the sun to dry. They retail for around $25, but sometimes you can get them for as cheap as $15 on sale. But even at full retail, they are a good value.

It doesn't seem to me you have much time to become attached to a perticular brand or style before it's discontinued. I usually look at LBS and grab a couple pair if I like them or several pair online at end of season when marked down.
Gloves like everything thing else, it's what works for you.

Summer nothing, cooler days hand up because they offer just enough to keep chill off and come in fun designs. Winter pealizume lobster gloves.

My favorite gloves are Gore, I have had the same pair of Gore gloves for years and bought another pair just to switch out but I also have a few Giro gloves so I have extras or for multi day rides when I want fresh kit.

Hardware store lightweight work gloves; work well, wear well and are inexpensive

Received a pair of PI gloves as a gift which I don't normally wear while riding unless the temps drop. Even then, I put on handlebar mitts (poagies) and I prefer those over gloves on cold and windy commutes. I have sweaty palms so wearing gloves only makes it worse.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! These gloves would be mostly to get rid of some pain I am getting in my palms while riding.
Wouldn't it be nice to be able to walk into a LBS and try on a few different pairs? Ah, the good ol' days!

I ride vintage so I wear vintage type gear. Wool jerseys and crochet top with thick leather padded palms. It worked great in the seventies and still works great today. I am 65 years old and do not get numbness with these gloves and the crocheted tops breath super well. I think Trek Bike still has some, but I usually buy a couple of pair at the Eroica Event every year. The ones from the event are usually Italian and better They last at least a year and I ride 2-3 times a week. Ordinarily I would say to do that. But with the whole COVID 19 thing, that might be a slightly risky thing to do.

With that said, I am very happy that a forum such as this one exists, especially given our current situation.

In my area it wouldn't even be possible since bike shops can only offer curbside service currently. To be honest, a lot of things I am asking on this forum lately, I would normally just walk in a LBS and ask them for advice/purchase the items from them.

yes since my wife is new to biking she cant try any on. Now what about a pair with no padding? I need to keep pressure off my palms to keep my carpel tunnel in check.

I wear Assos but it's really because I like some of their designs. There are a lot of really good ones out there.

Some features of gloves to consider (as not all gloves have these features)...
- Some kind of terry cloth / micro fiber on the back of the glove, usually the thumb area for wiping sweat off your face (or whatever)
- Some kind of loops or pull tabs on the figures to make it easy to pull the gloves off.
- Think about if you like an open-back on the gloves or not... having a big "hole" in the back of the glove makes for one goofy looking tan line (if you care about that!)
- To gel or not to gel... I personally don't find gel gloves comfortable, but that's just me
- For me, cheap is best as I wash my gloves after every ride, so I want several pairs. There are places to invest money for biking; I don't think gloves are one of those places.

For me, Pearl Izumi mid-line gloves fit better than any other gloves from PI or from Giro, Performance, Specialized, or Bontrager. IOW, if you're picky about fit, I strongly recommend trying them on before buying.

In winter (Southern California winter) I use a pair of better quality full-finger gloves I bought at the local big-box home improvement store. Quite durable and they are still in decent shape after two years.
Summertime riding I use a pair I bought at the old Performance Bike shop near me. They had a style I loved, bought out the stores stock when they were going out of business (7 pairs @ $7/ea IIRC) and haven't had to buy any since. Have not seen anything like them since that time.

Izumis and Garneaus are most comfortable on my hands. I like the Garneaus better because they have the loops to pull them off.
But seriously, they're gloves, buy whatever is comfortable in your price range.

You don't see them as much, but I'm a big fan of Chiba gloves. On my third pair.
Also, it's amazing how much protection you get from gloves when your hand is scraping across the asphalt...
