Moser a hipster?? 
He was darn good in track races and 6 days back in the day, that qualifies him as a hipster??? Don't think so.
Hope he doesnt sell any of those bikes to one, specially in the US because for sure the 1st day the bike will have brakeset installed

Was there a big astirisk hanging over this? I believe there was a huge bruhaha over his hour record both because of the size of the gear inch and the elevation at the Mexico City velodrome

There is a production F. Moser in my area. I had never seen one on person before. It was hanging in a guy's shed that set a local TT record fifteen years ago that is unbroken.

Moser was one of my heroes when growing up, along with Godefroot, Raas, and de Vlaeminck. Can anyone guess what my favorite race is?

With the increasing gap between modern bicycles and what was available at the time of Merckx's record, the UCI established two records:
the UCI Hour Record (which restricts competitors to roughly the same equipment as Merckx, disallowing time trial helmets, disc or tri-spoke wheels, aerodynamic bars and monocoque frames) and
the Best Human Effort - sometimes termed the UCI "Absolute" Record.

The "brouhaha" was simply the fact that the Merckx record (set at the Mexico City track in 1972) was considered one of the grails of cycling, and that Moser had beaten it with a machine rather than superior ability. This opinion gained traction as Moser's record was beaten with successively more outlandish machines, eventually leading to the "UCI hour record" requiring traditional bikes with wire spokes, drop bars, etc.

It's always great to see an alternative 'angle' involving a top pro, albeit in just a few images. There weren't many Moser-branded bikes to be seen BITD on Scottish roads - even fewer now - but rest assured 
at least one 'F. Moser'-logo'd Vetta leather saddle is still out there, a bit worse for wear but still very comfy

Moser had an almost preternatural combination of sheer, brutish power on the bike and immense grace. I love the viedos of him in the Giro, climbing with a perfectly flat back, as if in a time trial. Then there's the scene in "Sunday In Hell" where he bridges to the lead group and splits a couple of French riders like a hot knife through butter. Amazing. Perhaps his most underapreciated feat is the one he performed in 1994, when he nearly retook the hour record at the age of 42, beating his 1982 record by a bunch in the process. No doubt special machinery and special, um, "preparation" contributed to his performances. But the guy was a monster. I was supposed to get to ride with him in Hamilton on 2003, but that failed to materialize, sadly.
