Residue on Benotto Tape...common?
Hi,
I am finishing up on my Tofeo and had some NOS (old) Benotto tricolor tape and when I opened the package there seemed to be an oily residue on it.
I don't remember having to wipe this off of Benotto tape in the past (years ago!). When I wiped it off it seems fine but I am wondering if it will continue to off-gas and will become slippery after I do the install.
Anyone have this experience before?
Thanks, Ben
oily in the package, dry after the wipe down.

Ben,
I've had that happen with NOS Benotto tape, I just unrolled it and pulled it thru a clean dry shop towel, then wrapped the bars. There didn't seem to be any ill effects from it. That said, I can't ever remember having it happen when Benotto was about the only to wrap your bars with.

I just had the same experience with some I got on EBay from a seller in PR. Is that where you got yours? This was a first for me, and I have used Benotto a bunch.
I sprayed a rag with citrus degreaser and dragged the tape through a few times, then rinsed. It seemed fine after that, as nomadmax said.
I also used tricolor, and the hard part was deciding which color to privilege, and which to wrap over.
This time I wrapped top down (something I have never done with Benotto tape) and used Velox plugs. Too early to tell how it will hold up.
