Punctures in the rain
I head out this AM for a 30 miler. Light rain. Which morphs into hammering rain. Then 8 miles in I sense my rear tire is soft. Rats. I pull over and change the flat. Now it's really hammering rain. This takes a few minutes, and as I perform the repair, the rain actually intensifies. Now it's epic friggin rain. By the time I remount the Ibis I'm freezing. I start hammering myself in an effort to warm up and shorten the misery. I rode back to Chester and cut the ride short @ 20 miles and as I made this decision the rain essentially stops. So it goes.
I did notice that by the time I ascended Mt. Doom I didn't feel like I had ridden 20 miles. It felt more like 50+. Riding in a deluge will do that to you.
This weather is just brutal. I think I'm setting a new record for punctures. Once the roads dry, I won't get another one until October. I am trying to channel Sponge Bob, but it's not working anymore.

i've also noticed that punctures are more likely in the wet or shortly after it has been raining. is becasue the sharp objects get the dirt washed off them whcih would normally soften the edges?

I get 5x as many flats on wet roads or in the rain because road crap sticks to wet tread and works its way into the tire to cause the puncture so much more readily in damp conditions.

Try rain, wind, hail (big hail lol), lightning and......tornadoes! There's been at least one somewhere in town every afternoon for the last 4 days now. I was telling a coworker this morning that if this stuff keeps up, I'm gonna have to trade my bike in for a canoe.
Or maybe an ark .

I can ride in the rain. It's harder to ride in the snow. This is OK, but it has gotten old after a friggin MONTH of this, when it's supposed to be getting nice out.

Yep, more flats in the rain. Rarely get 'em in the summer ... but come winter here ....
BTW it's been weirdly, record dry here on the raincoast of Leftern Canuckistan. It's warmer than LA right now.

Has coddling tendencies.
It rained about 1/10 of an inch last week here in SoCal. Very strange. We normally don't see any rain from May through November. Just heat and fire.
