In case you haven't figured this out or read it somewhere, the key to riding easily for long distance/long time is eating! Eat all the time. And drink water. And keep your salt level up too if you're sweating a lot.

We did 42.3 on the tandem today. Cool temps, originally predicted to be wet but it didn't rain. The sun came out a bit. A lovely day with trees turning red and orange and gold.

Was planning on a club ride on the far north side of Indy but weather was very iffy.
Looked better starting from home on the south side. Got 9 miles out on Mann Road and it started raining. Turned around and finished with a total of 19 miles - 10 of them very wet. But warmish and no thunder till a block from home. Sunday looks like a rain-out. Oh, well, time to lube the chain.

I got my mojo back today. On the last two of my standard 60 miler, I had Countdown-itis. That is, for the last 30 miles I just wanted to be done, and was counting down the miles.
But today I felt great on the whole ride, start to finish. Possible reasons:
1. Rode solo, so I could use my optimal-cruise speed.
2. Perfect weather, sunny and warm.
3. Nice big breakfast before leaving.
4. Four days since last big ride -- perfect interval??
5. Just chance.

Rode 40 miles relatively easy. I'm still feeling some effect of last Saturday's 100K; I guess that's to be expected when one lets one's base erode.

Did the Culpeper Cycling Century in the piedmont area of Virginia. Beeeeauuuutiful day. Actually got a little hot in the afternoon, which is fine by me. 101 miles, 6K of climbing (all rollers), 6:14 hours.

Yes, but barely. I have no idea why, but my legs had nothing today. I was going to bail out at 11 miles but fussed at myself and pushed on. I did 20 miles--better than just 11.

Did the Rails to Trails Charity ride today. 62 miles with some really great weather. The wife did her 25 mile ride. Very proud of her.

...my wife and I just finished a 12 mile ride on a beautiful trail that runs through a lot of trees in full fall colors. 12 miles might not sound like a lot, but she's right in the middle of chemo treatment for breast cancer and fighting the fatigue that the treatment brings with it, so I think she did amazingly well, she's a real trooper as far as I'm concerned...

37 miles, mostly gravel. Got a double flat on one of the paved sections. I was going too fast to see what I hit, maybe I should wear my glasses. I was a little cautious riding home, I had a patch kit, but it was getting dark.

I don't think so!!!! Don't need no stinking rip currents during the 2.4 mile swim for my Ironman.
102 miles today followed my 5K jog at a 9:50mpm pace, 2,500 yards swim yesterday, 2,000 yards swim Thursday, 4.5 mile jog followed by 41 miles on bike Wednesday, 4,500 yards swim Tuesday, 15 mile jog then 1,000yd swim Sunday, 101 miles bike last Saturday, 2,600yds swim Friday, 3,000yds swim Thursday......PLEASE DON'T NEED NO STINKING STORM in the Gulf on Nov. 2nd. Next week is last good effort week then taper begins.

62.7 @ 15.1 ave on the club ride Saturday, 43.3 @ 17.4 on a solo ride Sunday. I am pretty sure the effort on Sunday was my best ever for that route.
