Trek 660 - Ebay listing; help

I posted an earlier post awhile back about purchasing a frame but I unforgettably and regrettably missed out on it.

Anyway, I've found this Trek 660 bike on ebay and wondered if anyone can sure their advice or opinions about it. I would like to know if anyone can see any flaws that make it avoidable or have had bad experiences with the frame; also to what price should i be spending on this frame. I will have to have it shipped.

I plan to build the bike into a singlespeed.

Anyway, here is the link https://cgi.ebay.com/TREK-660-series-...item2a0e792889

I appreciate the time anyone spends looking into my thread. Thank you.

I would ask if the seatpost isn't seized up just in case. It'll take him/her 5 mins to check it out.

Want to know How To Buy a Vintage Bicycle on Ebay and get exactly what you expect...? Want to know How To Determine the Quality Level of a vintage road bicycle...?

Hope this is a help and that Trek will see quite a bit of bidding action in the last sixty seconds of the auction.

Hope this is a help.

Good candidate for a conversion, the dent in the seattube doesn't look serious, and yes, the price will fly in the last minutes. I'd just place a bid of what I could afford or think the bike is worth and not go back until the auction is over.

it looks like a nice frame but not if the seatpost is stuck. a SS? I think those short dropouts might make getting the chain tensioned correctly hard, you may need a tensioner.

these are nice frames, they have fabulous little details that would normally only be on custom work. if I hear you cut one thing off the frame I will hunt you down and slap you

great frame good luck. OH it fits yes?

I've been looking for a Trek in that range, but it isn't the geo I would want. Other than that, I'd set my price and track it, trying to win. Seatpost is a potential problem, yes.

Check the Vintage-Trek site to verify what the seller says about geometry. That paint job as all the hallmarks of an original factory finish, so I'd trust the color guide on that site as a guide to model year. Then in the brochure you can find the geo chart for that bike. 55 cm TT with a 52 cm ST does not sound right, for a Trek.

Just checked, it's a 1988, and the 52/55 geometry is right. Frame is made for pretty aggressive positioning, with that long TT.

It will work fine for SS. You just may have to use a half link. There is a little adjustment room in the short semi horizontal dropouts.

I'm pretty sure I've held that frame in my hands at the last New England ride... how many medium white/red Trek 660s with a crimped seat tube could there be in Massachusetts.

It doesn't seem like tweaked tube has slowed down the early bidding.

531 phile - I shot a message to the seller.

Randyjawa - Thanks for the links, I really needed it for all the other frames I was considering.

Bianchigirll - Yes it fits and I only plan on making the bike as safe and as comfortable as I can to ride around in.

Thanks to everyone else for the other information everyone's provided. The photo has me a bit happy to see how pretty it can be.

FYI: posting a link to an ebay auction puts a lot more potential bidders' eyes on your future bike... and especially this crowd of vultures...? I'd keep it on the DL next time.

Nice sentiment, but understand you're likely driving up the price, possibly beyond what you're willing to pay. And don't forget that for each member of this nice community there's probably several lurkers who never post.

I think the kind of sharing you should have in mind, if you want the bike, is the pictorial kind once it's in your possession.

Also if you want the best chance of winning, use a sniping program.

Well, I don't want to get into a whole argument but I think any lurkers would find it easier to type in Trek in ebay and find it =x.
I don't know if I'm missing some magic to finding stuff on ebay but not many results come up when searching vintage bikes.

Thanks for reminding me about getting an auction program.

Lost the Bid War by 2 Dollars and some change; couldn't be around for the end.
It ultimately went for something like $202.00 with shipping.

Nobody has really given me any ideas about it's worth so I was wondering if I missed out.

No that is a good ball park to stay in for price. $100 to $200 for the frame, and for $200 it better be Awesome to Mint.
I am bidding and loosing this Trek 660 auction right now.
Vintage Trek 660 Road Frame & Fork, Reynolds 531, 56cm
If a 56 CM would fit you, bid away. All is fair in love and war.

Haha, I was looking at that too but I wasn't sure if 56 would be too big.

My measurements say i'll be running a french fit at 56 so, I'll have to see.
Appreciate the sharing though broseph.
