Ah, the rules

I nearly violated Rule No. 3 for dealing with motorists who should know better: If foul but no harm - and they apologize - ride on, 'cause there's no benefit to stomping feet.

I was riding in the bike lane this afternoon on Margarita, no clouds, & the sun behind me. A jackball motorist nearly passes me on the left, then turns right, into apt complex driveway, nearly taking me out. The right-hook.

It was a gated complex, so he wasn't going to drive off. I walk-roll up to his window - he had to enter a code or alert the person he was visiting to open the gate - & tell him to keep his eyes open. Says he didn't see me w/a smirk I wanted to remove & use as a door stop. His 1st apology doesn't register, I'm so livid. I make myself clear with no histrionics, and he says sorry (again), he didn't see me. Time to get back to riding.

Not a matter of if but when.

I'm glad that you said something to him. Maybe he'll be more attentive in the future.

Also, it sounds like you kept your cool...

If you think that the person is not paying attention or insincere in their apology, write down the make, model and plate number of the vehicle and call it in.
They might not be contacted, but if it happens enough times, the cops will speak to them and if anything does happen between them and a bicyclist then there is proof this is a pattern of behavior. Remember the doctor on Mandeville Canyon, once they saw he had prior run ins with bicyclists they nailed his ass to the wall (and now Bubba is doing that for all of us bicylists)...

A friend of mine recently got harassed and ran off the road and she was able to get the driver arrested, so yes definitely get their info if you think it was intentional.
